Hey Triggerfish .. that CBX is kind of a grail bike for me. I swore I wasnt going to bring back any more bikes from the dead but ... well if one came up it would be hard to resist!

The day I brought it home:

Yeah, I had the Hailwood 6 into 6 pipes with all baffles OUT!

My daughter was just on it for the photo, she always had full gear when we rode.

I commuted for a couple years on a Sport Touring 600cc bike about 100 miles a day, 5-6 days a week. It's what I could afford at the time and was my main means of transportation, rain or shine, hot or cold. I road in Monsoons, 115+ degree summer. I rode faster than cars, I stayed ahead of people, never sat beside them. I hung it up about 8yrs ago and talk about it all the time. It's missed but I had a really bad hit and run accident that screwed me up. After that, I was fed up. It's worse now and I'm in a fullsize truck where it's hard NOT TO see me but people are idiots and technology is making them lazier.

The MSF course, I took it before actually hitting the streets and it was one of the best things I did. Take them all the way to advanced. The skills are really useful to have. I avoided a lot of close calls. I was putting in serious mileage and saw a lot of the scenarios they talked about.

Weigh your factors and decide. When my kids are a bit older I may return to it but the mix of driving styles in Phoenix these days really sucks. Even if you are at a light and think you're ok, I had someone rear end me because their foot slipped(they where wearing slippers) and they mashed the gas pedal. People are careless and parts of your body cannot be repaired.

With all that said, we only live once and life shouldn't suck. We could die a dozen different ways every day, motorcycle just gets added to the list. I'm pretty sure when I return to cycling it will be on a Multistrada 950S or Tiger 900 Rally.

Post up what you buy!

When Jobamma gets done destroying the energy sector we all may be resorting to the two wheel mode of transportation, hang on to those helmets you have stuck in the back of the closet 😡

I am way ahead of the curve then. Got this a bit over a year ago. The wife had talked about one forever and I blew it off and then a neighbor was moving out and offered this up for $100.

Of course .. it didnt run and hadnt been started in 3 years but .. about $30 in parts and fluids and half a brain and we have put some 500 miles on it since then. She only rides it in the community or the church parking lot but I have taken to using it for all local missions. Will go up to 50mph if your brave enough but 40-45mph without inducing any fear and it gets around 70 mpg.

Its actually a blast to ride, as easy as twisting the throttle and it fires up reliably each and every time. 150cc of fun. I get in more impromtu conversations about it with passerbys than my motorcycle.

The wife wants me to do a Flower power treatment to it .. I may have to ride it less after that. :snooty:

Oh the fringe has since been removed!

Personally, I like vespas especially if you live in a busy city and don't have the means of getting up to high speeds due to constant city traffic.

When I was 21, I had a car turn left in front of my machine, hitting me head on. I tried to jump off the bike, and over the car, at pre-impact. Dislocated my left hip, smashed my left knee in the move. If I would have stayed with the bike, I’d have died there. The moron was cited by police, and I sued. Minimum insurance, and owned nothing. I never rode again. Now 64, and suffer daily from that day. You can be well trained, and watching for yourself at all times. But if an idiot aims at you, it’s all over. To me, it wasn’t worth it.

I ran dirt bikes as a youth and raced some desert up to about 30.
Had a few good wrecks couple bones broke mostly my running out of talent.
Got a nice BMW R1100RT back in 2000.
Took the bike class. My wife and would do road trips in state.
I just did not like getting out and coming back into Da Valley and all the traffic.
Sold in 2002 I think. The amount of distracted drivers now scares me a lot.

This is something that must really think about here as I feel most people who are texting on their phone and being a dumbass are usually the ones with the cheapest insurances they can get. To them spending $10/month more on insurance is a foolish idea. Cheap A-holes. Happened to me in my Mustang in 2018.

That is so bad A$$ .. amazing though looking at it with new modern eyes .... that frame and fork look so spindly for all that engine!!

My very first running bike was a GS 450 which I traded in for a GS 750. Got it around 1980 maybe and it was one of the older 4 valve kick start engines.

Man me and that bike had some awesome adventures and still left some great memories. only vehicle I had so I rode it all day everyday wherever I need to go.

Little bit of nostalgia had me buy this one and bring it back from the dead a few years back. Needed a fair bit of wwork but the engine was sound. Rode it for about 2 and a half years before getting the Vee. It was still fun to ride. Heavy but the sound of the engine over 5000rpm even with stock pipes was pretty awesome.
