I ordered some primers and they were shipped fed ex. Their tracking and notifications kind of suck. I dont recall if it was always that way but Hazmat needed signature. They were scheduled to deliver on Saturday. Saturday Morning I woke up and they sent me an email saying my package was updated and would arrive on the 15th.
Cool .. went out with the wife to shoot pictures.
Get back and get a notification that they attempted delivery. Ugh .. then I get a notification that it has been updated since I was not home to sign for it and would be delivered the 16th.
Ok .. Not in a rush so 16th is fine

Yesterday we are in front of the TV Playing Far cry4 and my wife goes to get something from the kitchen and yells to me .. FED EX!

So she runs outside as the guy is leaving the "We tried to deliver" note. Didnt hear any knocking but ??

Anyway got the primers but that was a long winded way to ask a question that maybe one of you has the answer to.

I understand that Fed Ex has partners like the UPS store and you can go to the fed ex site and ask them to leave the package there. Dont know for sure but I Think so. IF this is an option .. has anyone ever tried it and have you tried it with hazmat stuff that requires a signature. Will the local Office depot or UPS store accept it?
Just easier for me to go pick it up than do the watch for driver thing.

Well, the short answer to your question is that there is no short answer, Yep, ammo and associated components are “hazmat”, but so are a lot of ordinary items found around the house: beauty products, lithium batteries, cleaning products etc. which NEVER require a signature and are chemically are far more hazmatty than ammo. But ammo can really freak some people out. The hazmat signature issue really starts with the shipper and has nothing to do with Fedex rules. Fr’instance J&G Sales ONLY ships ammo with signature required and folks who don’t read the fine print buying ammo from them have frequently been vexed by them (OK really POed by J&G). The trouble is once a shipper requires a signature its a shot fired down range and can’t be changed. Now I’ve had ammo delivered by Fedex and dropped at my door with no issue, but sometimes it depends on the driver. Once upon a time I ordered some ammo from CMP and they only shipped via Fedex. I’d never had a problem receiving from them at my house, they just dropped it off and left, but I was going to be out of town for a while and had it delivered to a buddy in North Phoenix. Unfortunately he wasn’t home when the Fedex dude showed up. Here’s the kicker: Instead of trying to deliver it again, or holding it at the nearest Fedex drop-off/pick up satellite location the manager of that nearest Fedex office freaked out at having ammo sitting there and sent it back to the main Fedex distribution center which IIRC was in north Tempe. Soooo, that’s where my buddy had to drive in order to pick it up. A real PAIN IN THE ASS. The most useful piece of advice I can give you is before you buy ammo etc check with the seller to insure they DON’T require a signature.

Great advice! :handgestures-thumbup:

I wouldn't have thought to look. Wouldn't have mattered in this case because primer procurement being what it is .. I have to take what I can get until Sportsmans or Cabelas start having stock again but .. in the future and for things not so urgent .. I will check those damn shipping rules.

I too have had plenty of ammo dropped off on my steps so didnt think to look.

UPS has a free My Choice product (or something like that) that has some nice features, but most importantly, it allowed me to pre-sign for all packages forever. I bet (hope) FedEx has something similar

Usps just started that too. They would never even attempt to come to my home in the community with certified mail or signiture required packages. Just leave the note in the mailbox. Would take two three days and a trip to the post office to get hold of my package.

Just a couple weeks ago the option for electronic signature came up through informed delivery. Now they ask if I would like to use the electronic signiture for each package that requires it. Its awesome. Recieved a new slide a few weeks ago that the sender sent with the requirement. They put it right in one of the parcel boxes. Awesome!

It all boils down to customer service, and it's been getting worse in all industries. But, the USPS, UPS, and FedEx keep finding new ways to disappoint. I've been receiving more damaged packages than ever before, and when you have an issue, it's difficult to get resolved.

The new thing that I've been seeing by multiple shipping services is them just dropping the packages out in the open of my driveway. I'll get delivery confirmation and check the door, but nothing's there, so you have to walk around and see where they dropped them. If they keep doing that, I might be open to having my packages delivered to a remote drop-off location to keep them secure.

I had some boxes delivered last week, and the UPS driver just dropped them off in the driveway for all of the world to see. I walked out as he was unloading the last boxes from his cart, and I said, "What's the matter? You don't bring them all the way to the door anymore?" He just shrugged his shoulders and mentioned that he thought I wanted them in the garage before he walked off. He didn't care.

Sorry to rag on all of the shipping industry. They're not all bad. Don't we have a couple of people on here that work for UPS/Fedex?

FedEx signature requirements and delivery options:

If a shipment requires, either an indirect, direct or adult signature, and a delivery attempt is made, but no one is there to sign for the package, the driver will leave a door tag at the recipient’s door. If no signature is required, the shipment will be left at the recipient's door.

If a signature is required, the driver will typically try to deliver the package up to three times. If a label has been applied to the back of the tag, the driver was unable to leave the package due to signature requirements or felt the package was not safe to deliver. In those situations, FedEx may no longer automatically reattempt delivery and the package will be taken to a nearby FedEx location to be held for you to pick up.

The label on the door tag includes the pickup location address, business hours and time the package will be available. The door tag and a government-issued photo ID are needed for pickup. If you want FedEx to reattempt a delivery, call 1.800.463.3339.

To avoid missed deliveries, sign up for FedEx Delivery Manager to request to hold your package at a FedEx location for you to pick up. If you already missed a delivery and received a door tag, make sure to follow the instructions on the door tag to ensure your delivery is made on the next attempt. If your shipment requires an indirect signature, then you can sign electronically through the FedEx Delivery Manager app or on fedex.com, but you cannot sign electronically for packages requiring an adult or direct signature. You must sign in person for adult or direct signature requirements.

Any signature required is an additional charge for the shipper. Residential deliveries do not require a signature unless the shipper pays for the signature.

I am in 85208 zip code. When I had to pick up guns at the actual FEDEX location that had come back from repair and not one of the onsite fedex locations like walgreens and such .. well .. it was kind of a haul from here. Like "That Guy" posted .. I think its up to the individual franchise owner to determine whether they will accept Hazmat stuff. Come to think of it, because I never looked .. can they tell from the packaging that it is gun stuff and not hair spray??

Fedex Office has many locations in Mesa.

https://local.fedex.com/en/search?q=33.3996663%2C-111.6332808&qp=Mesa%2C%20AZ%2085208%2C%20USA&holdPackage=on&pickup=true&services=5637373&l=en

There is one on Power just south of Hwy 60. Fedex delivers and picks up at these locations daily. Have them drop off at one of those locations.
