I am looking for the laws on carrying a knife for people under 21. I bought a couple fixed blade knives as Christmas presents and want to make sure I dont get the kids in trouble.

Currently doing web searches any help pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks for any reply's.

That site is poorly written and looks more like an advertisement. Curious about the laws, too. Never gave it much thought when my kids had pocket knives!

This is where I am at so far - https://www.azleg.gov/viewdocument/?docName=https://www.azleg.gov/ars/13/03120.htm

From some web searches, it sounds like a folding pocket knife less than 4" is ok for someone under 21yrs.To carry a fixed blade like a Ka-Bar TDI or the like, maybe have to be 21yrs. But I have not found the actual law to confirm.

Thanks

No exert but everything I am finding is that under 21 it is pocket knife for regular carry and 4" or under although I cant find anywhere that AZ law stipulates a size.

I dont know how that applies though to out hiking or otherwise in the desert and I cant seem to find anywhere that makes that distinction.

Once upon a time I was a collector of high dollar hand made knives. I was still in NYC. I wrote to the DA and asked for clarification and received a written letter back which I kept in my wallet. You may want to write the same position here.

A. A person commits misconduct involving weapons by knowingly: ...
2. Carrying a deadly weapon except a pocket knife concealed on his person or concealed within his immediate control in or on a means of transportation if the person is under twenty-one years of age.

"Pocket knife" is not defined in the statutes and would be a question of fact. A fixed blade in a sheath on a belt, for example, is very likely not a "pocket knife."

Thanks everyone - while this is clear as mud, I have to agree that a fixed blade is not a pocket knife and will not give the kids the chance to test that.

Probably moving to something like a Kershaw Leek as gifts.

I carried a 3.75 inch fixed blade Morakniv for years till the city of phx, put in security, now you can;t even take a pocket knife, hell even had a run in with one guard wanted me to take my hearing aides out, i screamed ADA shiat, and he let it go, so now try to avoid going, hate not having any means to defend myself, and everyone of their "so called security" poeple, are old fat fudgers and or women who might go 90lbs. I"m old but i'll still bruise ya.lol

Just to throw another in the mix

I just got the bigger brother to this one and love it. I used to be heavy into collecting highdollar knives and looked down my nose at anything under 50 bucks but I have to say. So far rally impressed!

Here is the small version .. which I might get for giggles

and here is the version I got .. this one is a big knife. The blade is only 3.5 inches but the handle is pretty long. I got mine in the coyote tan

So in Az if 21 you can carry concealed without permit, why not stick a large sticker in a concealed position, seems logical. I have not renewed my permit now for some time so ...I dunno!

Carrying a large knife concealed is easy if you're tall, thin and never need to sit down. Change any of those variables and it becomes considerably more burdensome.
