In case you aren't one of the people who has been closely watching the events unfolding in the Ukraine war,...the owner/founder of the Wagner military contractor company, Yevgeny Prigozhin, who has been critical of Russian execution of the war for months and who has been sidelined by the Russian military as a result of those criticisms, has finally come out and fully denounced the war's claimed excuses and motivations, calling it illegitimate and everyone involved in launching it criminals,...except for Putin himself. He and Wagner have disengaged from the front and are attempting to return homeward.
However, the Russian military has ordered Wagner to be de-privatized and rolled into the larger Russian defense ministry,...which Prigozhin has refused. Prigozhin has claimed that Russian forces have mined their route of retreat, resulting in casualties and that Russian troops have fired upon them.
This was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak, and Prigozhin has declared "we will destroy anyone who stands in our way" and that any military formation which seeks to block or delay Wagner will be considered hostile and engaged accordingly, even to include overflying aircraft.
Prigozhin and the bulk of Wagner have reached the Russian rail hub of Rostov-On-Don, which is a critical supply junction. From there, if it were his plan, direct train transport to Moscow is possible.
Apparently at least some lead figures in Moscow are wigging out and fear Prigozhin is primed to attempt to launch a coup, and the national guard forces in Moscow have been called out to deploy across the city, particularly government buildings. Because so much of the normally available military vehicles are deployed in Ukraine, most of the tanks and other armor seen on the street have come directly from various museums.
So far, there has been no actual statement from Prigozhin that there is any plan or desire to launch any coup or attack on Moscow,...but Russian history is chock full of all sorts of treachery such as that, and is a big part of the inherent paranoia of all Russians about internal traitors that gets programed into them from childhood schooling.
Muscovites tonite are experiencing tightening sphincters.
Meanwhile, the FSB (successors to the old KGB) has announced members of Wagner should arrest and detain Prigozhin. This is Russian subtext for "you are about to be wiped out unless you flip sides."
The next 24 hours should be very interesting.

Wagner has occupied the center of Rostov-On-Don, which is the location of the headquarters for Russia's Southern Military Command. Reportedly, this has occurred without a shot being fired. Whether it can be termed as having "seized" or "taken" the city is not clear, and perhaps Wagner has simply rolled into town for the night to rest and regroup.
