Jimmy Buffett died in the evening hours of Sept. 1, 2023, at 76 years old.
His family said in a statement, "He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many."
The "Margaritaville" singer's death came as a bit of a shock to many, but fans of the singer (affectionately called "Parrotheads") who followed him closely likely remembered that he was hospitalized in May 2023 for an undisclosed medical condition, leading him to cancel a performance in South Carolina at the last minute.
Buffett also had to cancel several performances throughout 2022 for undisclosed health issues.

According to TMZ, Buffett died from skin cancer that eventually metastasized into lymphoma.
Buffett was reportedly first diagnosed with skin cancer four years ago. A friend of Buffett told the outlet that the cause of the "Cheeseburger in Paradise" crooner's illness wasn't exactly surprising to those who knew and loved him, explaining, "He lived his life in the sun, literally and figuratively."
