The only “advantage” to priority mail at this point is tracking. Even then you have to deal with the frustration of watching a piece of mail languish somewhere.

I’ve also had priority packages I have sent/received disappear in the system with no tracking for days just to show up at my local PO out of thin air.

You get tracking with first class mail but you have to be under 16 ounces. I have started using it much more because packages get there in the same amount of time as paying the extra for priority.

Only place I see priority shinning now is that you get $50 insurance included so judging what you ship, it may come out the same as first class if you added insurance to first class.

Second is in the "if it fits it ships" packaging. There it shines and I have been getting bullets STUFFED into a small flat rate box which saves me and the company a ton of money. You can get close to 1000pcs 38 158 gr bullets in the box and it would cost a ton to ship if you did it with priority or take weeks to get if it was shipped ground. If I am shipping something heavy those all you can eat boxes are neat

Here's an interesting question for the forum.

I've lived in the same house for almost 16 years. For the first 6 or 7 years the mailman was a guy and I got my mail between 1:00 and 1:30 PM every day.

Then he went away, and was replaced by a woman. Since then I've probably had at least 20 different women working the route. When a woman does it, doesn't matter which one, I get mail between 5PM and 7PM every day.

Now all of a sudden there's a guy doing it again and I'm getting mail between noon and 1PM.

How come there's such a difference between when guys deliver and women deliver the mail?

I posted before I've had good service from the USPS and mostly have but recently I've been getting this dreaded notice:

"Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility."

Turns out this means your package is in some kind of limbo and who knows when it will be delivered.

After about a week I emailed them which meant you have to fill out an online form. I got a "we'll look into it" reply the next day and lo & behold my package was delivered the following day.

Coincidence? Squeaky wheel? Your guess is as good as mine.

So now I got the dreaded notice again. I'm going to wait til Mon/Tues and if no movement try the Squeaky Wheel again. We'll see what happens.

I hope the Post Office is catching up for everyone. I ordered bullets on Jan. 9 and they shipped the 21st and were delivered on the 25th, coming from Texas. I was really surprised on both shipping and delivery.

They are definitely slow on moving bullets for me. Seems like the heavier the package the longer it takes too.

I'd actually been treated alright by the USPS until now.

Sold a black powder revolver on muzzleloading forum. Buyer lives in Missouri. The package was supposed to be delivered yesterday. I log on to find not only "Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility." but that for some reason a package going from AZ to Missouri made stops in both CA and FL before not being delivered on time. It's still stuck in limbo somewhere.

While this debacle was going on, I sold a medieval long sword on a sword forum. Guy messaged me said he was interested and wanted to know if I could ship to Canada. He has a solid feedback rating on the sword forum and even offered me some extra money to cover shipping costs. I agreed. Not wanting to deal with the post office, I checked out UPS who quoted me at $166! I promptly returned to the post office where it still managed to cost $59. Never selling anything to Canada ever again.Screenshot_20210203-143058.png

Yeah. It's horribly slow.

I decided to follow baja's lead and filed an online inquiry on Saturday. Within about 30 minutes I got a call from my local post office. She was extremely friendly, polite, and apologetic and admitted they've been experiencing some pretty severe problems. She speculated that my package would arrive by today (it hasn't), but at least it finally left North Carolina Monday morning. I'm really hoping it gets here in the next few days, as it contains what's pretty much unobtainium at this point.

Sold a Maadi crutchfolder stock to a guy in Missouri. Took eight days just to leave PHX, another week to get to KC. Three more days for him to get delivery.

I had a package show delivered the other day. Nope. Tried to file a lost package with USPS, but the page showed that it wasn't available at the time.

I do not envy your run of luck with things as of late. I hope that gets straightened out!

Those were small loses. Think I popped the engine in my truck last Friday too. Shop can't look at it for a week tho. That will more than 10-15x the other two. FML.

LOL......

So in addition to the 10+ things they screwed up for me this past year - let me tell you about their latest as it is so hilariously incompetent I can't fathom.

I sent a certified, tracked, signature required first class envelope to San Bernadino on December the 21st 2020.

The envelope was "guaranteed" to be there on the 26th, which I knew was B.S. but I figured as long as it got there before the first of the year it was fine.

In the envelope was/is a money order for $535.

The envelope makes it to San Bernadino on time - the 26th! But does it go to the recipient? Nope. It stays there for a few days, then goes to Pasadena for some reason. Sits there for a few days. Then it comes back to Phoenix and sits here for a while.

So today (1/13) I go into my local post office to get a refund - as this was time sensitive and the ship has already sailed on the transaction. The tracking just shows "in transit" from Phoenix. I want a refund of the money order. I have all the receipts and paperwork.

So what is the process for this? Took three employees to find out how to do it. Then they can't just refund me. I have to have an "inquiry" performed. Guess what....that COST $6.25. I have to PAY them to refund me MY money that THEY screwed up. Unbelievable.

On top of that bullshit, the "inquiry" may take up to thirty days, and IF they decided to refund me it will be via a check mailed by the USPS. They can't just refund to original payment method (debit) and they can't refund me an item that is in their possession, that I have receipts for, and that they have basically lost at this point.

Absolutely unacceptable and ridiculous. I informed all my customers and suppliers today that I will no longer do any business that requires USPS. This was the last straw. All the bulk garbage mail gets here/there no issues - but anything else is lost, stolen, delayed, or buried. Now I am 30 days out on the possibility of a refund - IF they deem I get one. Then I have to wait for them to do the one thing they are supposed to do, but can't - and that is mail me a check.

F*ck the USPS.

So update on this.... Last week or so guess what magically appeared. My money order I sent on the 21st of December. I tripled checked the address - it was correct. For whatever reason they returned it to me.

Since I had the receipts and all I figured I can just go cash it and get my money back......

They will do that if you have both parts of the money order (the actual money order and the tear off section.)

Problem with that is they may not have enough cash on hand to do it. I went to the post office I purchased it from - and they didn't have enough money. They referred me to the branch a few miles away. I drove there - they don't have enough money.

The employee there literally said "Take it to a P.O. in the ghetto as most people there will be using cash...."
I asked if they could reissue it so I could put my name on it - and cash it at the bank. He said most banks won't cash a USPS money order and they can't reissue.

So I drive all they down to a P.O. off grand ave and something - and they had enough cash.

So the post office will issue a money order - and then can't honor it unless you happen to stroll into a P.O. when they have had a busy cash day. Even the employees I dealt with knew this was the king of stupidity - I only wish I had known before I underwent the endeavor.

One tried the "it was chrismas excuse" - which I replied "that christmas, so unpredictable - don't we all wish it was on the same day every year?" she just stood there looking confused = and then she rolled into the "in these unprecedented times" - which I laughed and said "USPS has had nearly a year to adjust." I told her I wasn't blaming her - but stop feeding me B.S. excuses and give me my money.

All this was to buy a Lyman Great Plains Rifle - and of course now I have negative feed back I am fighting (because the seller thought I was working some sort of scam) I am out the cost of the priority envelope, inquiry fee, and money order fee, and I now have to find another one of the rifles.

I ordered something from a clothing vendor today, and some car parts - and I paid double the shipping just to avoid having to deal with the utter incompetence of USPS. I will never use them again for anything other than throwing away the 18lbs of junk mailers they manage to deliver on time, everytime.

Well they got new trucks!! Billion dollar contract I think ... at a time when they are losing millions

and still .. I have a small package that was scheduled to be here Saturday the 20th .. still no sign of it and it seems they stopped updating progress on the 16th when it was received from the sender.

but .. those nifty new hybrids should make life and service so much more wonderful and help wage the war on climate change

YAY USPS

Yes. To all of that. It's so ridiculous that it should be unbelievable. And it would be unbelievable were it not all regarding one of the most liberalized branches of the federal government.

I've place (5) orders with a distributor in North Carolina. Without exception, the packages reach the "MID CAROLINA-CHARLOTTE NC DISTRIBUTION CENTER" and just SIT there for 10-14 days. Although I need none of the items immediately, it drives me insane. I decided to pay extra for UPS shipping with my latest order. It shipped today, and I'm willing to bet it's going to get here quicker than the one that shipped via USPS 8 days ago.

Last Friday I sent a money order priority to a gunbroker seller. 5 days later it hasn't even left Phoenix yet. F'in ridiculous.
