TheAccountant said:I just read through the rules on Ben Avery and saw no sort of ban. Can you give me a link to the rule?

It is in the rules at Rio;
16.NOSTEEL CORE, TRACER, ARMOR PIERCING OR INCENDIARY AMMUNITION OF ANY KIND IS ALLOWED.
Seems like a decent rule for an outdoor shooting range in the desert. Steel core ammo can cause sparks, sparks cause fire.

Really? Because I was there today, and when I signed in they made me open my bag, take out my ammo, remove it from the magazine, and give it to the range officer. A magnet was placed against the bullet, and then I was allowed to go in.

Don't know what to tell you man...maybe you look like the kind of person who shoots steel core ammo. Or maybe they don't like you.
Either way, it doesn't really matter. It's their range, their rules. Don't bring steel core ammo.
It beats up the steel and can cause sparks.Mauser98 said:Also shooting at the steel has nothing to do with whether the bullet is steel. They're not armor-piercing, just have soft steel cores or jackets.

They can get thicker targets...as soon as they raise the cost of shooting there.Mauser98 said:If the steel targets are getting beat up from steel core ammo then they need thicker targets.

QuietM4 said:An email went out to members recently;
"It has always been the policy not allow steel core ammo, however due to a recent fire caused by use of steel core ammo up at the main range the policy is now being enforced. The RSO’s are now tasked with checking every single shooter’s ammo with a magnet to ensure compliance with this policy. Please note - this policy is set in place by Game&Fish and is not up for discussion and is not affected by the Monsoon rains. From our website: Please be advised that any bi-metal, ammunition containing tracer, incendiary, armor piercing, steel jacketed or steel/tungsten/penetrator core projectiles are unsafe and prohibited - in other words, if your bullets attract a magnet - then leave them home! Thank you for helping keep our range a fun and safe place to go shooting!”
