Sports and law enforcement/military firearms manufacturer SIG Sauer is bankrupt. Production in Germany is to be discontinued, the Eckernförde plant will be closed

Ouch that is NOT good. I wonder how loosely coupled the organization is ? It certainly looks like having a plant in Germany, didn't help there sales.

Wow .. I am a display guy and sure I managed multi million dollar budgets but I wont fain to understand the upper corporate management of things but .. how do you go bankrupt just after receiving a rather large guaranteed government contract?

How does a large government award a contract without first making sure it is solvent enough to support it?

Strange .. Is it the end of Sig or just German Manufacturing?

Does Sig even make anything for the German police/military anymore? Seems like HK is always swiping up contracts.

Looks like legislation coupled with the coors light virus did them in. I'm sure Fuhrer Merkel is moist right now.

Sig Sauer here in the USA is a different company than the German arm of the company. All the USA made stuff is not effected.

Aahhhh ... I thought they were one and the same!
L&O Holding has owned SIG since 2015. Other than Blaser they made very little for the sporting market for Europe. Similar to Remington getting rid of Bushmaster. It will have no effect on SIG USA.

Due to German export laws, exporting anything firearms or military related from Germany is a royal pain in the ass. The only reason to keep a manufacturing plant open in Germany is to sell to the German military or other state agencies.

i wouldn't manufacture anything there either.

The question I’m most interested in - does this mean they can make an X6 Supermatch in the US now?

The German plants have lost money for years. SIG was essentially blacklisted from competing in bids for German police and military contracts and the sporting market is next to dead.
This is a good thing for long term profits and viability.
