School shooting response plans; leave the disabled to die

I am going to say something which may be thought terrible but

While not having a strong strategy for disabled or Special Education students sounds awful .. they are not generally going to be the targets and mobilizing Special needs people is a whole handful of hard work.

Sometimes .. you have to weigh risk against action and plan accordingly even if you don't like the plan.

When I say they arent targets .. you have to look closely at what might happen realistically. Funny not so funny story. Very soon after the 9/11 hijackings I had a planned trip to Puerto Rico to visit Family. It had been planned in advance. Everyone said .. oh my goodness your not going to get in a plane are you. I lived in NYC and would be flying out of Kennedy mid day mid week on the cheapy flight.

I calmly told them .. that flight is about as safe a flight as you can take because no self respecting terrorist wants to claim responsibility for taking down a plane full of Ricans .. it just doesnt make a good enough statement.

I dont even think these sick ass School shooter freaks wants to go to jail as the guy who shot up a bunch of the disabled and mentally ill.

I have witnessed and been a part of moving groups of special needs young adults and children and with 3 chaperons covering 10 people its still hard work.

I like just shooting the school shooter freaks in the entrance way and then quietly dragging their lifeless bodies away.

yup in a perfect world where everything is "fair", choices would never have to be made but ... you hit the nail on the head.

The amount of people power necessary to move several classes of Physically and developmentally challenged kids would huge. Best to lock in place and have someone in there ARMED!

My kids have had a shooting response plan since kindergarten. Get the phuck out. Out windows and out doors out anywhere away from shooting. Do not allow anyone to make you hide n die. I have argued with a couple teachers who didnt like my kids telling them they are heading out the nearest exit away from the sound of gunfire. I said I hope lots follow them cause no one exiting a school ever was killed. They are all hiding or running in circles.

Disabled students survival in shootings or fires or disasters should be planned for ahead of time by hardening their facilities while providing exits and equipment for fires or storms.

When the shit hits it I expect the people who take responsibility for those kids to be prepared and able to give them the best chance just like I expect the first armed officers to run to the gunfire. The rest is uncontrolled and what happens is what happens.

Have a plan. Work the plan. That's all you can do. We all assume certain risk based on our choices.

Yep, and that is the PLAN that should be in place.

Soon after 9/11, Mrs. Flash and I had a planned trip to Kailua Kona Hawaii and like you, everyone said we were nuts.

I told them we were safer than planes were before 9/11 so I wasn't worried at all.

The plane was about 1/4 full as not many people wanted to fly at that time. The male flight attendant came around to pick up our dinner trays and picked up the chopsticks we ate it with and said "you might want to keep these as souvenirs" while giving me a big smile.

Mrs. Flash said "weapons". She was right.

On the disabled. The teachers should be last out period.. That will make some of them like the idea of being armed. Socialist always think of themselves first so... JMHO

Carry on

rofl, yeah right, maybe a possibility but i'm guessing not,

heres hoping that they dont have to test the method or idea they are attempting to implement.

14% of students have disabilities? What the heck is going on? I met maybe 2 or 3 kids with disabilities in my entire public school time of 12 years.

In todays world they think every kid is handicapped in one way or another and they have a drug to take care of it.
There are more kids on some kind of drug now than ever in history.
If a kid has an imagination of their own , something must be wrong with them.

Unless everything I read about the parkland shooting was a lie, you might want to rethink the bold above.

The kids were shot while running down the hall towards the exit stairway and at least one was killed in the stairway.

We didn't wear seat belts in cars and we could open an aspirin bottle, the times they are a changin.

Now kids are labeled as disabled with addhdd or whatever they call it, while we just called them a spaz when we were in school.

When I was a kid if the teacher said you weren't paying attention or causing problems ( ADHD today )
good old Dad would take you out back and you wouldn't have ADHD the next day.

At risk, disabled = more federal funds. Self fulfilling labeling.

We always had one full class of disabled kids. They were actually disabled not ADHD. Hyper kids went to regular class.

This said, the teachers still had well used paddles and had no problems calling you up and telling you to grab your ankles in front of the class. I mean if you wanted to be the center of attention they obliged. Then your parents found out and you usually got worse at home.

Class room behavior issues were rare as was lack of self control. I wonder if this is coincidences or causation?

So they should stand there and pray god make me a stone?

Dont need to rethink anything.

The chaos of the epicenter at the inception of one of these events is going to be luck of the draw when you cant fight back. So, people get shot in the location where the punk decided to open fire. I'm pretty sure you will find the vast majority who beat feet lived. You're not going to stop that regardless of your plan and you're sure as shit going to get killed freezing and hiding under a phucking table. Worse is hiding in a room waiting for death. Nope get the phuck out.

As I said, when a shooting begins run away from the gunfire out of the school. Any way you can get there. While I'm sure you could find an instance otherwise, out side of the soft target where mass murder is happening is a much better place to be. IMHO

I told my children the same, run away as fast as you can ..... like your life depended on it.

Gun free zones should be outlawed, too many people shot and killed in those places.
