OK - For whatever reason (probably that I subscribe to a bunch of guntuber channels) about half of the youtube ads that I get are the Sandyhook Promise ads. I don't want to make fun of a guy who lost his child - so I won't... on the other hand - I loathe anti-gun organizations. To that end... I've started to click the "visit advertiser" link in the ad every time it comes up... because my understanding is that doing so costs Sandyhook Promise money every time I do so. I don't, of course, complete the survey, send them money, or anything else... I just click through to make them pay for my "visit."

Other than the proverbial cookie tracking crap... is there any way that me doing this is helping them? I'm doing it purely on the understanding that by clicking through it costs a bunch more than the penny or two that they pay to force me to watch the first 5 seconds of the ad - and I like the idea of draining their coffers faster - even if the money goes to Google. Thoughts?

I think you have too much free time on your hands.
LOL... not really... but I do often have a set of headphones on my head with "something" youtube running in the background... (when I'm sitting writing)... and I'm too cheap to pay for YouTube premium to get rid of ads... so I get to hear about how bad AR-15 assault rifles are about every 15 minutes...and I'm a bit vindictive when it comes to people who want to kill 2A... so... I've started clicking through... It also occupies the 5 seconds... so I can then skip the rest of the garbage and get back to whatever was occupying that chunk of my brain.

Clicking on things helps them. It validates the effectiveness of their message which will signal boost their content elsewhere and also give them the numbers to back up additional fund raising.

Just ignore ads/links, and "delete and report junk" wherever you can.

Thanks - that helps... that is what I was worried about. I was happy to take the extra step to cost them money - but if it creates "ad momentum" for them I'll quit doing so...

Typically ads only costs them if you actually buy something. Even then, it’s just commission shaved off purchase price. Say you clicked on moto ad and buy bike for $10k. Vendor ends up paying site that posted ad $500 commission from their profit-margin. Or whatever their fee agreement dictates.

Not true. You don’t have to buy anything. Every click, every “impression” has impact

Sure, it gets recorded for SEO, but does actually cost them money?

Sandyhook  One of the biggest farces in government history. Can't believe anyone is even still using it to promote their agenda.

If I were going to make a Sandy Hook Promise, it would be "I promise to be armed at all times, so that if any little drugged up puke decides to shoot up a school, I will shoot him first."

That shit never happened. It was a post-election gun control façade . You ever seen the movie Wag the Dog? Don't think that shit doesn't happen...

BTW, I don't play into too many conspiracy theories, but this incident was so full of holes it wasn't even funny.
