Thanks, I downloaded the apple app to identify.
It says it’s Green Jasper.

Dry picture does say serpentine. Which is what a guy at the rock shop thought.

I’ll head to his shop on Friday.

The one I downloaded seems pretty accurate. It even was able to identify a Brachiopod. I’ve collected several specimens over the years. So I didn’t think this would identify a fossil, but it did.

Back when I was a copper miner, we would have identified it as Leaverite.
Or maybe called it a NFR stone.
Hope you get a better answer than that.

Yes, I have found many Leaverite specimens over the years of rock hounding!

No translucence, opaque.

If it had some translucence, it could possibly be some type agate or quartz

I forgot to post, Here is the first carving that I did from this stone. The eyes and heartline I inlayed turquoise.

Be careful with that, if it's serpentine, the layering may be indicative of chrysotile mineralization.

Chrysotile is an asbestos mineral. Breathing it is bad.

Yep, all grinding etc. are done outside with a mask. and wet grind

Outside, wet grind, N100 or P100 respirator properly fitted (no facial hair interference, and dump your clothes outside and jump in the shower immediately after. No need to bring whatever you missed back inside and spread it around. And no smoking until you're cleaned up.

Would suck to die of something dumb like that, even if it does take 10-40 years to kick in.
