Which is more fun to shoot? For self defense I like semi-autos, I've found them to be more reliable (crazy enough!) but for fun I like revolvers more.

Once I got into reloading I've found revolvers to be more enjoyable to shoot. Don't have to pick up brass and you have more leeway with different loads.

Anyway just some thoughts. What do you prefer?

Revolver all the way .. love shooting them.
Can usually load with a variety of cartridges and loadings from mild 38 to master blaster 357 in most guns equipped for 357, I like the trigger stroke, I feel more confident that it will only fire when I mean it to and I dont think being limited to 6 or 7 rounds is limiting at all.

And like you mentioned .. its nice to just dump the brass into your range bag.

Weight might be the only down side but ..

I have a 642 and even that isnt an issue.

Currently in the stable
S&W 28
Ruger Match in 10mm
Ruger 3" 357
and the afroementioned 642

Been carrying the 10mm the last two days and I am almost always with that little 642 in a pocket

I think that it is personal preference, for the most part.

I like both, I carry a semi usually, but keep a revo handy around the house. One thing that I miss on my EDC semi is a hammer. I like being able to cock, and de-cock a semi or revo, but due to size, I understand no hammer.

YMMV.

I own a handgun for self defense. On that basis, what is important to me is my ability to use a handgun in a , two to the chest and one to the head practice drill. If my revolver does that better, one day, for me, then I carry it,... if my semi-auto does it better on another day, then I carry it.

Doesn't matter to me, which I carry,... just the end results!!!

Which is more fun to shoot?

Whichever is more accurate.
I have lot's of guns but the ones that are the funnest to shoot are the most accurate ones.
I don't care if it is a revolver or a semiautomatic.
I like shooting tight groups and I like shooting distance.
Hitting a steel plate just to hear it ring doesn't do it for me.

I do enjoy shooting both but prefer to shoot and carry a semi auto. I find that I am more accurate with a semi auto but don’t have as much practice time with a revolver.

I have several of both and have been shooting for years and up until I finally got a Beretta 92 I would’ve said my S&W Model 10 4” with 38 wadcutters was my favorite but that Beretta is nice.

I prefer 22 automatic pistols to 22 revolvers too

I like to collect and shoot all the old stuff. When I was a kid watching Clint Eastwood in the spaghetti westerns I loved his guns. So I like to relive what it would have been like to shoot the ball and cap revolvers and the single action as well. The double actions ok but only in the 44mag for me.

i'm a fan of a good revo, when i carried for a reason i always carried a .38 in an ankle holster or pocket, along with my regular semi, i really enjoy shooting the .38, lotsa fun, been throwing the 357 in and giving it a go last couple times out, have loaded them down a tad, so i don't kill me self, but nothing like an accurate revo to make the day.
shoot straight, stay safe, if not that going out with a blazing glory comes to mind, lol horsefeathers right. Rj

For fun range guns I really enjoy shooting my old S&W revolvers and 1911's. I really feel you should have some guns that are just for the fun of shooting even if they don't serve any purpose other than pure relaxation. I doubt I'd ever want to go back to only revolvers for defensive purposes but if I had to I could.

My range toys are certainly more enjoyable to shoot than my SIG and Glock semi-autos that I use for the serious purposes of self defense for carry or home protection. For me, those guns are more work to shot well vs shooting the Smith revolvers and 1911's with their lighter, crisp triggers.

Being that semi's usually hold more rounds and some are geared towards cc, I shoot them more. But for fun, no semi will outdo a revolver IMO. Shooting something like a 686 with some hot 357 rounds is a pure joy.

With proper grips of my choice, I love Smith J and K, old Ruger Six models, and a few Rossi, Taurus, etc.
J-frame of some sort is nearly always in a pocket, whether solo, or as a 2nd-gun.

I remember as a kid, revolvers were less interesting to me than semi autos. Then one day my dad forced me to participate in a cowboy action shoot with him. I could not believe the amount of fun that I had. Relative to a normal 3 gun match, none of the guns hold that much ammo, so your constantly trying to cram ammo in all the guns all the time. Which is what I think made the shoot so much fun.

After that I had a new found respect for a lot of pieces in my dads collection, especially the revolvers.

I carry mostly autos for weight and size concealability and comfort issues.
But shooting for pleasure is completely different, revolver DA all the way.
For me it's a matter of trigger control and skill development.
Its like TIG vs MIG welding. If you have to efficiently get the job done now, go with the MIG, but at home when building things for the art and craft of it I go with TIG.
Also, NO PICKING UP BRASS!!!
