For those with astigmatism (which I am one of) take your dot with you to the optometrist (preferably not the whole gun as that might make for some interesting convo, but YMMV), and have the doc run through the different choices until the dot becomes more crisp. I'd also recommend keeping the dot small- 3.5 or smaller MOA to help with the bloom.
I have a pair of glasses that I only wear when shooting. Other than that, I don't need any type of corrective lenses for day-to-day living.
Maybe one day someone will come up with an etched red dot like a prism but for a handgun. Till then, it's pretty easy to have shooting glasses with Rx lenses.

Excellent advice... Holographic or prism can help the astigmatism problem.
Here is a link that has some great information.

I tried them. They are better for me and I will trust my seasoned experience.

I’m one of the many, without even expending a case of ammo or requiring the “right” instruction (buttons are real simple, on/off/bright/din) was able to benefit from a dot on a pistol.

I don’t know why me saying this bothers certain people (AZ1182) because it shouldn’t It is my seasoned experience versus someone else(AZ1182). I’ll trust my experience over theirs always.

I tried to quote accurately and if I screwed up I will contribute to get on A-Hole's ignore list. The list is long but distinguished. (quote from Top Gun)

Ok, last two cents
Too many points I'm accused of to waste my time.
In all my 10 years I've have never had a post called visceral or disrespecting, but I'm just backing off and considering the source.
Just like Tony quoted, happy to be on the long and distinguished list.

FYI- For those who hate glasses, there absolutely is a cure for astigmatism. It's called LASIK. I did it approximately 30 years ago when they were doing it with the surgical equivalent to exacto knives. I actually got it from a doctor in Oregon who went to Russia and learned it from the doctor who discovered it, so I guess I indirectly contributed to the rise of communism. Needless to say, I was 99% confident that he wouldn't blind me when sticking a surgically razor sharp knife in my eye. Too bad the old AZ A-hole won't ever see this so that he might see worth a spit some day.

Lastly- Since moving here in 2011, I have found the vast majority of the local gun community willing to share their knowledge and educate people who share this common interest, but being in the microscopic minority, GayZee1182 ain't one of them. For those of you who I've had extensive/many conversations with, thank you for your positive interactions.

Ok, really lastly- funny anecdote-
Quote heard at an AZS shoot/BBQ
"Ok the burgers are ready, and if you don't like 'em, here's the spatula" rj

Days like that is why AZS rocks

Well at first I thought "we all got sucked in" but his other 5 posts here don't seem botlike, I dunno maybe they're getting smarter. In the past the bot posts don't make much sense.
Could it be that he made the exact same post on another board?, I've done the copy&paste thing for selling on other boards

Shit probably with every thread turning into bickering, Its pretty absurb that some dont know how to post their thoughts and move on. I for one enjoyed the discussion of reddots. This has been an area of research for me lately so thanks for posting experiences and thoughts on the subject.

WOW

Add me to your ignore list too. I've had one interaction with you (strangely in another pistol red dot threat, you do seem to like discussing them despite not liking them) and I think set for life.

You have a similar trait in regards to red dots on handguns: You don't like being told no.

I give an unbiased viewpoint from real world experiences that happens coincidentally to be a negative but when I do discuss, I don't speak with absolutes and only am speaking for myself only. Those that are emotionally invested in, don't like hearing because it causes dissent and feel threatened by it. I don't know why, I am not telling anyone that they shouldn't pursue it because that would be bad. Some then do act like they have to best me and act all high and mighty saying that I'm ding it wrong, yet fail miserably because they son find out that they are not my better and we're actually equal in knowledge.
Well, except for your typos, of course...

I don't eva want az1182 to leave. He provides ton of entertainment here.

He is an ass but still doesn't hold a candle to Ranger1 for entertainment value.

Ranger1 didn't rely on his claim of being the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he was in every drawer of the forum and started new drawers.

This poor guy hasn't mastered it yet. I'm certain he will get it one day and I look forward to the entertainment.

My son in law put one on his pistol. I have a REAL hard time finding the dot. When I do find the dot it's dead nuts on target after I sighted it in for him. Lot's of practice to get quick on target from draw I assume. Much different. Red dot on my AR is quick as open sight's. Zero adjustment or practice needed to get dot on target fast. Weird

I'm in the same boat as you. Eyes (especially with progressive lenses) don't find the front sight worth a flip. Even on my 7 3/8" barrel S&W 629.

Took me a while to learn to acquire the dot. With enough practice, I've got it. Follow on shots were always easy for me and my groups are better, especially at speed.

I'll never go back.
