It's not as dangerous as South Phoenix they said..

Paradise..

And another this morning. My GF called and said the office of her previous employer was closed because of another shooting near it. 59th and Bell.

To be fair, a body was found in Tempe town lake this morning. Probably a drunk co-ed though...

Seems kind of early in the evening for it but if memory serves there are a couple of wretched dive bars there. Maybe even a less than reputable strip joint. I havent been in the area for a bit so I could be wrong.
Truth is .. everywhere on the globe that you have those establishments and drunken people making merry you have stupidity.

Dont get me wrong .. in my youth I frequented a few disgusting strip joints and more than a few bars that couldnt pass a health inspection on their best day and had quite the time but ... truth is truth.

So far I have lived in Laveen, Scottsdale, Glendale and now east mesa. I didnt think Glendale was any great shakes.

You gotta get way out anymore or find a nice little enclave. 59th n bell was not bad a decade ago but now is on it's way to becoming maryvale north. I would say you gotta get out side of the loop now. Just gotta watch how far south you get.

Gilbert's nice and usually is judged the safest town in America of its size by the people who do that.

We're almost full up, though.

You have to expect several shootings per night with a population of over 4 million, which is low IMO. As stated, get outside the 101 to be safe, but that is relative.

The west side of Chandler is pretty quiet, west of the 101 and North of the 202 and east of the 10, luckily. I know that east of the 101 in Chandler gets worse closer to Arizona ave.

What Crippled said.

The best way to judge an area is to measure the ratio of rental properties vs. ownership,...if such a map exists. That would tell you nearly all you need to know.

Laveen has been nice and quiet till the Dyke brought all of the Katrina section 8 'refugees' here. Now the 202 coming through the rez and through Laveen is going to change that even more for the worse. Lots of farmland getting bought up and getting developed.

I really loved Laveen. When my wife and I bought our house out there we thought we moved to mayberry. It was quiet, kids threw their bikes in front of their house and left it there, which was shocking to me. There was a ton of old unpaved roads to take a walk on and it was really nice. Sure their werent alot of amenities but it had a fryes so what more do you need.

Our house had a nice view of South mountain and we had a beautiful home with a 30 ft pool. Was great taking a short ride and be hiking up south mountain. Phoenix rod and gun was right there as well.

Then came the housing crash and in short time our idyllic little life turned quick. With the foreclosures came HUD. I know they mean well but HUD feels like the vultures that wait on a dying neighborhood.

Gangs of kids fighting in front of our house, regular breakins, they broke into the car and taking walks at night suddenly seemed not such a good idea. Then a few shootings and we decided we had enough.

Its too bad .. it was a dream home.

I hated Scottsdale .. just not for me
Glendale was like a lot of what I call grey neighborhoods from back in NYC. Not messed up enough to run from/not nice enough to want to stay. A little seedy in spots.

I am digging East mesa. I like being 5 minutes from Tanto and Usery. We take a 10 minute ride over to pebble beach to read or sit in the river or ride the bike to canyon lake. Its getting developed fast though and we are already getting the second starbucks. They are pushing the meth heads out and prices are going up fast.

I dont need amenities across the street so my next and last move will probably be further away from humans.

Don’t you have to be blond hair and blue eyed to live in Gilbert????? Also to work for the city of Gilbert????

I am blonde haired and blue eyed, but the wife is brown/brown as she's ½ Portugese, 1/4 Hawaiian and 1/4 French.

Don't know about working for Gilbert though.

Being the Gentleman I am I will limit my comments to "sounds like you're a lucky man sir"

I am indeed. We go to Hawaii every year for a couple of weeks and you wouldn't believe how fast she tans. By the 3rd day, waiters and bartenders are putting their arm next to hers and her arm is darker than theirs. Tourists are constantly asking us directions and fortunately I've gone enough times i can help them out.

Went on a tour of the ola Brewery in Kona Hawaii last year and the guy who gave the tour said when he saw us he was sure we were locals because of her tan and looks. Same thing happened when we dropped into the only gun store in Kona and the owner asked where we lived on the Island.

They're probably wondering what a nice local girl is doing with a gray/blond haired, blue eyed Haole like me.

Nah, the key here in gilbert is getting any help from police or public services if you aren't mormon. It's a cult, they know who are and aren't members...but maybe it's because I like asking them about the Mountain Meadows Massacre. They don't seem to like that too much.

Well, I've never needed any of their services, but Mrs. Flash called the fire department one day when the smoke alarms went off and I was out of state on business. They got there quick and fixed the problem so I'm not worried about not getting what I need.

Hot that nail on the head. We have survived the HUD invasion of Laveen. We moved here when the market was just shifting and you could buy a great place for $100k. It's really turning around. This year 83 homes in our HOA have sold to real owners (investors sold out) as the market shifts due to the 202 development.

No clue what the future holds for us here but now that we are sitting on a nice pile of equity when we do move it will be worth it.

I've had friends suggest Surprise, but w the recent murders out there and meseals cases Surprise just doesn't appeal to me.

My next move will likely be where the pine trees live.

The equity is getting up to what it was before the crash. I do hope section 8 becomes a thing of the past here. No need for section 8 to use a 3,000sf 380+k home for ghetto rats
