I heard "Phoenix police" very clearly and saw him reach behind his back for the gun. I didn't hear him say a word about putting the gun on the ground. If he would have kept his hands up i bet money he would still be alive. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

You might want to watch the video again. He didn't reach behind his back for a gun, he had it in his right hand. He started to drop to his knees, left hand in the air. the pistol was never pointed towards the officers or even in front of him. He appears to be dropping to his knees and setting the pistol down.
The body cam on the officer that shot, clearly shows the pistol was never raised or pointed.

Come to my door unexpected and banging on it, I don't care what you're shouting, you are likely to get the same or a worse reception, but I wouldn't step out in the open, until I saw ID.

Can't see the gun in his hand on my phone but I can see he reached behind his back, to me that's a no no. My first thought would have been he was attempting to hide the weapon then, he didn't realize there was another cop behind him. He could have easily shot at the cop he saw from a kneeled position. like you said you wouldn't step out into the open. he could have easily called 911 to check and see if it was actually cops, he could have talked to them through the door but mr badass thought he would intimidate someone banging on his door by stepping out with the gun. I bet he holds that firearm sideways...or used to. The guy had several options but he took the worst one possible. Cops aren't telepathic, they have to react in a split second. Eliminate the gun from this scenario and I bet the guy would still be here.

Glad you don't have a tin star since you are blind as f*** to what happened.

Well we'll just have to agree to disagree then, because from most of us that watched it saw that he complied and was gunned down.

Note: I am a big backer of the blue, but not when they gun someone down, especially in the back when you can clearly see that he was giving up without a fight.

I would love to support police more but I can't support people who hide behind each other when they f*** up. I started off as a big supporter but what I have seen them do over the years has me as avoid them at all costs. I would still help a officer if I saw one getting his or her ass handed to them and would shoot someone to defend one but some days I question if this is even worth it anymore.

As much as I would like to think there would be retribution for this cold blooded murder, there won't be or at the very least I'll be pleasantly surprised. If Mesa PD can shoot someone point blank in the back of the head with the guy on the ground with an AR with a dust cover with "you're f***ed" engraved on it and get off scott free, so will these murderers because he had a scary evil gun in his hand.

And people wonder why public opinion on police is tanking...

The cop that shot him in the back should be fired.
Right Now!
Will a jury convict the trigger happy motherf****r of negligent homicide. Not likely. That is if it even goes to trial. I feel sorry for the family. I'm not one to protest but this is a cause worth fighting for.

If "police" show up at my I move everyone into the most reinforced place in my home that I can.

The oldest and most competent person calls 911 and confirms that they are supposed to be there. If they are. I will secure my firearm, announce I am coming out in unarmed and my security and that person calling 911 will be recording.

If they aren't well it's time to do what you need to do.

Because people for far too long have been posing as cops and doing armed home invasions you can't take the risk. They can wait a minute or two to make sure I too, get to "make it back home alive"™.

Then you need to get to a computer and watch the video. Any cop in Arizona should expect anyone to be armed at any time and should be trained how to deal with that.

There is not point at which the guy didn't comply and at no point did he point his pistol in the direction of either cop. When he was told drop the gun, his left hand went up into the air and he started to drop to his knees. Unless the guy was Doc Holiday or Billy the Kid planning on doing some trick shooting, he is not getting into a shooting position, pistol pointing down, weak hand raised in the air, and moving to a kneeling or crouched position.

I don't know and don't shoot with anyone that is likely to just "drop their weapon", unless it was a Hi Point, they would put it down or lay it down.

On a side note you previously said if he would have kept his hands up, what would you say the outcome would have been had he started to raise his strong hand with the pistol in it? If he hid the gun behind his back, it was clearly visible to the officer behind him and the direction it was pointed was also clearly visible when that officer fired.

If they did this on a simulator they would fail.

Bad shoot.

Preface ... I didnt watch the video and probably wont

but

I find it kind of odd that AZ pd would be so alarmed at the sight of a gun. I know .. "Got to go home safe" or whatever the excuse is for being quick on the trigger but .. I can kind of see being nervous at the sight of a gun in locals where they are prohibited. If your a cop in NYC or Chicago Or LA where they unlawfully outlawed ownership. Then its an oddity when you see one and may cause alarm but ARIZONA!?

Freagin .. who doesnt have a gun?!

I wonder if these guys are new residents from out of state and just here for the good job and not really used to the culture. Open carry must scare them to death!

Are you a betting man? I bet you I can shoot someone with a gun in my right hand while my left hand is in the air all while on my knees...but I'm thinking i'm just talented that way and no one else on the planet could do that!

So you are basing everything on not watching a clear video (on your phone) and the idea that somehow just the presence of the gun made the guy a threat?

And yes, I'm sure he'd still be alive if he didn't have a gun. And? Last time I checked people in Arizona had the ability to carry a firearm on their person (which includes in their hand), even more protected in and near the home.

Ultimately you are faulting Ryan Whitaker for not being perfect, and giving every excuse you can to the police.
eFunny, you're basing everything on watching videos as opposed to you actually being there. What's that word i'm looking for ...oh yeah hypocrite.

That's what these websites are for, Monday Mornin quaterbackin and bein all badass tellin others what you woulda done ifn you woulda run up against that fella with a gun.

PS, I watched the video on my home PC, Only thing I would have done different is think my partner for having my 6.

Lol, were did I say I speak for " all LE"?

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. And hell, I may be wrong on this.
Ryan Whitaker made some mistakes, but none of them should have cost him his life. And I'm sure the two Phoenix PD officers wish like hell they hadn't taken a life that night.

We are all here because we love guns and freedom, let's not forget that.

Honestly, I'm not sure how he hasn't been banned yet. At a minimum for his racist comments, but mostly because his only purpose seems to be to troll other members.
