The soon to be released Bronco reincarnation (reminiscent of the 66-77 Bronco) and targeted at the Jeep Wrangler is firmly based on the Ranger platform, so perhaps this F150 based test mule shows plans to also bring out a version more along the lines of the old full sized Bronco as well. After all Ford is well known for doing things in small, medium and large... e.g. Escape, Explorer and Expedition.

If they do it looks like they are avoiding going down the same road as GM did with the abomination that is the current guardian of the "Blazer" name in their product line.

What do we have here? Some sort of Ford prototype of a vehicle that definitely does not exist in production: A short-cab, short-bed F-150 in Raptor guise. We have no idea what this test mule is, but it sure as hell looks like a full-size Bronco.

I doubt it would hit the street. Most fellas prefer bigger over practically.

"Bigger" is the whole point of this version. The already coming Bronco is Ranger based while this possible one is on the "bigger" F150 chassis.

Or did you possibly only look at the picture and think the article was about a small F150?

Bigger as in extended cab or 4 doors. "But you can't buy a Raptor, or any current F-150, with this short-cab, short-bed configuration." I know a handful of forum members that would love this type of combo but the majority of drivers likely wouldn't. Just based of the Bro dozer trucks everywhere.

"Even the Ranger Raptor, the badass off-road variant that Ford sells in a handful of global markets (but not in the US)"

This definitely would do well in US.

The Ford Bronco made from 1966-1977 was not the full size Bronco.
The full size Bronco was made from 1978-1996. The earlier broncos where the smaller version.

Ford has to come up with something because they are ( according to Jim Click ) no longer going to make any cars except for the Mustang.

Did you somehow manage to miss the word "BRONCO" in the title and linked article?

This isn't about a standard cab F150 with a 5 foot bed.

I clearly wrote that the already slated for production 2020 Ranger based Bronco was reminiscent of the 66-77 Broncos.

That is why this F150 based test mule, with it's (ridiculous for a full sized pickups) short wheelbase raises suspicions of the resurrection of the full sized Bronco at some point.

Also while it has receded from usage over the years, the term "full sized Bronco" was actually in reference to the 78-79 years only, which were the largest built. With the 80-96 years being referred to as OJ Broncos. Thus the Early Bronco, FSB and OJ Bronco monikers allowed no confusion as to what was under discussion.

Sorry , apparently I misinterpreted it.
Your title says " Ford bringing back the full size Bronco ".
Then it say's (reminiscent of the 66-77 Bronco).

Rumors have it that the first Bronco out the door will be a 2 door to be followed later with a 4 door, like the Jeep Wrangler was followed by the Wrangler unlimited. Rumors about the drivetrain have also been interesting. Some speculate a sport version with a Raptor motor in it.

I can't wait to see that. My old Bronco was never beaten by a Camaro on the street and could climb the side of a dam.

The Raptor motor being speculated about currently is the one out of the Ranger Raptor though as the 2020 Bronco is going to be Ranger based.

Yes but immediately prior to making that aside I had clearly stated it was about the Ranger based Bronco. All of which was simply a preface to the thread's main subject and a way (I thought) to avoid people simply replying about the already coming Ranger based, 2020 Bronco.

That"s what I heard. Big money in trucks and their cars aren't selling.
Of course when the economy crashes next time everyone one will want small cars again, then what?

Then Ford will retool their factory to make whatever IS selling. It's really not that hard as long as they keep development going. It makes no sense to keep producing cars that aren't profitable on the off chance they will come into vogue again.

Ford's looking at the long run is what prevented them from needing a .gov bail out like GM and Chrysler.

People want what they want. We're at $3+ per gallon for gas right now and Chrysler is building 700+HP daemons, ford is partnering for 700+HP mustangs, and 500+HP trucks. GM finally killed off the Volt.

Yep it will change again and smart companies will retool.

This variant would float my boat.

the days of the bronco are gone, never to be resurrected as it was, as with the blazer, sleeker, smaller, units are the rage. above looks like a range rover, as does the explorer, of course ford owned RR at one time, not sure if they still have a piece. i do like the RR but being 6-1, i find the interior a little small.
especially the back seat.

oh well, give me a cheebie

Yes the Bronco of old is gone but then Jeep isn't building CJ5s now either.

Done right the new Bronco could still be a rig that can be wheeled hard.

I agree that Cheebie did screw up the Blazer name with that thing they build. I still have high hopes for a Bronco based on all of the prototype pictures that have been circulated.

BTW, happy BurtDay ya old scmuck

OK, that make sense now. Just some of the wording threw me off

article said:
All of which leads us to believe (or at the very least, hope) that Ford might be testing the underpinnings of a full-size two-door Bronco built on a modified F-150 frame.

That seems unusual because, in the past, Ford has confirmed that the long-promised return of the Bronco will be build on the T6 platform that currently underpins the midsize Ranger. Ford has never made any mention of a full-size Bronco.

I was confused about the Bronco word and article mentioning an unknown model assuming to be the Bronco build but it's just more of assumption. So I presume it was regarding to the picture above since it isn't available in that platform.

will never be a domestic or, out of country, made truck, car, hov that will out off road a well put together jeep, just saying, and not being a ford fan, so be it.
happy sat,
Rj

I would love to see similar attempt on Rubicon like this Raptor did
