Agreed that much of the Iranian public would prefer living in freedom than in despotism. The woman who cut my hair at Great Clips yesterday came here from Iran, and is damn glad to be here. (Yes, there really are Muslims who have no interest in beheading infidels. Some of them are my friends. Two of them are coming over to the house tomorrow morning for coffee and strawberry scones.)
However, the government is indeed a bunch of crazy dangerous MFers, who teach school children to chant "Death to America." (Not a lot of American children chanting "Death to Iran.") In a ground war, Iran's army would crumble quickly -- their hearts are not in it. However, if those psycho MFers who constitute the Iranian government ever get their hands on nukes, they absolutely will use them.
That is a constant recurring problem: good people headed by bad government. Think Stalin, Idi Amin, Pol Pot. How do you fight a "country" without killing good people who are victims of the leadership? Khameini and Rouhani are not nice decent guys, just minding their own business, who are being picked on by the US. Tyrants always say that. (Hugo Chavez was a victim of American imperialism! But for those damn Americans, Venezuela would have a thriving economy!)
Still, the nature of war is that a lot of good people are going to get killed, on both sides, so you avoid it unless you have no alternative. If America was really an imperialist country, and if Trump was really a warmonger, Iran would have been a glass parking lot a long time ago.
