So I saw both a gen 3 and a gen 4 17 today. The gen 3 while several bucks cheaper, the grip felt like I was holding a slippery handle while the gen 4 felt normal but was not a fan of the finger grooves on either.

I really want a Gen 5, I've held and shot a friend's gen 5 17, it was very nice. The 19's though, all three gens was very awkward to hold. But either a G21 or a G20 gen 4 doesn't bother me. Also got to check out a G43X, it felt just right and like it was made for my hands actually.
Well sounds like the decision is made then. I have shot gen3 for a long time and while I like the gen4 is nice with the grip modularity it’s not really a big enough draw for me to care.
Case in point- when I shoot a full-size 17 frame it doesn’t “feel right” compact 19 like a glove.

Go with what works for you and if at all possible try and shoot them on a range as this can have an effect as well.

I have had a few gen 3's. The only one I had problems with was the one I swapped out parts on. My G34 . . Out of the box, no cleaning before or during. No lube the whole time. Shot 2000 rnds without problem. YMMV.
I also shot the hell out of my gen 2 (bought it in 1990) with no problems (it was the single pin version). YMMV.

And +1 for what the previous post said. If you can, shoot it on the range first before you buy. You won't be sorry.

YMMV holds no water, sample size doesn't prove anything but the visuals in that video is actually what happened. I don't know you, but I know what I saw in that video. Please don't turn this into a pissing match, I like Glocks too but I'm a realist and we should all be fair and impartial.

And I've BTDT with shooting Glocks, not my first rodeo. We should all treat each other as such unless made known that we haven't.

I plan on breaking in and making sure that my brand new 17 gen 5 is good to go, just waiting on more magazines to show up before committing to it.
You have some SERIOUS personality defects, man.

Care to enlighten us all, with specifics, on how LostDog99 attempted to start a pissing match? Because I see no indication that he tried to start anything. He merely stated his opinion, which he has just as much right to do on these boards as you...

Can we all just enjoy a thread without your “holier than thou” crap? Kthnxbai.

Ya...Think
I was gonna comment on the thread, then decided against it. Provoking the OP just isn't amusing anymore....then....he started in.

Here is my take:

When someone states "YMMV" it is completely legitimate. My mileage might vary from Gil's. Why? because we are two completely different shooters, firing two separate weapons, probably in two different environments, and most likely firing different ammunition. I might have gotten one that is prone to FTF or a jam-o-matic, while his might not, or vice versa so his mileage may vary from mine.

Does this negate his experience with the weapon? Dominish his opinion? No.

So, I think that when someone states YMMV it merely means that each shooter and their impression is entitled to their own viewpoints based on their experiences. For someone to state that it is stupid, or irrelevant, is ignorant.

I don't even have to look to know that three of the clique is trying to do clique things. I don't read ignored person's posts but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that someone shared this thread in either private messaging or offsite someplace else, and that I still live rent free inside of your heads.

Move on, it's way past time that you did and it should have been obvious that I don't allow myself to get baited anymore. And it's Saturday, do something better with yourselves than looking for false drama to be a part of, like the sophomoric personality disorders that you three have habitually shown.

There is no false drama. You attempted to start drama, and I called you on it. The “clique” you refer to is comprised of LOOONG time members here. People who know each other, and have done business with each other, literally for decades. We’re open to new blood, but not if they’re going to bait someone else. YOU laid bait with “don’t make this a pissing match.” LostDog99 and I have a solid reputation, he’s absolutely not the kind of guy to start drama. Sorry champ, but you’re not going to fool us older members, that was all you. As Cool Arrow (another longtime member, FYI) pointed out, nobody needs you to denigrate others for their opinions...

But yes, I’ll be adding you to my ignore list, where you’ll join other troublemakers who didn’t last. Cheers!
