Favorite JW flik the cowboys when bruce dern back shot him dead, sorta like superman dies, but more movies followed each death so in the end just a story. Sure made a lot of war movies then moved on to cowboys ended with a detective flik or two most were just a formula for him with different costumes. My parents loaded up coolers and off to the drive for EVERY John W movie....

FWIW: The correct terminology was simply "DUKE"... No 'the'...

Although I can't really think of a bad DUKE movie (except maybe THIS ONE... :shock: ) two of my favorites are Mclintock & The Sons of Katie Elder...

Way back in 1980 I was a new apprentice working on the addition to St. Joes hospital.
Inside metal studs were up and the trades were roughing in there stuff.
I kept hearing the Duke from some movie in the air.
Being it if usually loud on site it would come and go.
Finally found an sparktrition working away and listening to a movie he had taped, cassette I think.
Dude was a true fan for sure.
