When ordering an FFL item online and choosing an FFL to ship to, is it best to notify the FFL before ordering or is it okay to just order then go talk to them. I've never ordered an FFL item online before, so...

Lowers are impossible to find locally, so I'm thinking of ordering online to get a couple more.

Thanks in advance.

I always check before ordering. Most likely you'll have to have your FFL send a license copy to the seller anyway before they'll ship.

If I am using a place that has my ffl on file, ie gunbroker then I dont bother contacting the FFL. I figure they put their name and info on the list in order to garner extra business. I have never had a problem doing this. FFL just calls me when it arrives.

Only time I have ever contacted the FFL first is if its with a place or person that doesnt have the info so I can have the FFL either provide me the info to forward or ask them to send it directly.

If you know who you will be using, just call them first. Their FFL may still be on file the seller, but have closed up shop in the last year. Or, their license has expired and they would simply need to email the seller with the new info. I try do do whatever I can to shorten the time between me buy and receiving.

Some retailers like Classic Firearms will send an email to the dealer letting them know an item is headed to them with the tracking number. Some don't.

Thanks, good info.

Not all FFLs are the same. Some are brick and mortar shops that have been there for decades. Others are guys working out of their homes as a side job. I would always contact before ordering, regardless. Especially being your first time.

Did you try AZ Ammo in the N. Valley?

They have to have lowers in stock.

I like to give them a heads up in advance just so they know it’s coming. Definitely call if you haven’t used them before as they may prefer to send their info directly or forward to you.

I kinda like to do a face to face at the shop before hand and talk to them about transfers in person first just to make sure they are ok with it. Some don’t like to do a transfer believe it or not so it’s nice to feel them out first.

I always call my FFL and ask if he can do the transfer. It is a courtesy, even though I am 100% sure he will do it. He may also have to send a copy of his license to facilitate the transfer.

Good to know. Thanks

If a customer finds me on a drop down list for a website or gunbroker then everything's good to go. Gunbroker tells us the second you order anything and select us and automatically sends out out info. I usually just ask customers if they're looking for something to send me a text or email so I can see if I can find it for a cheaper price somewhere else for them. Or if they want something from somewhere that doesn't keep dealer lists just to contact me so I can get our info for their order out so there's no delay. What's really more annoying is the I saw it was delivered 5 seconds ago can I come get it calls. Just don't ever be that customer.

My FFL had a customer follow tracking and show up without calling. He was at work and the guy wanted his wife to give it to him since he drove all the way over there.

Good to know. Do you own a shop?

Well that was rude. I'm never in that kind of hurry.

Yeah I've had a few of those. I've had a customer wait outside once and try to get it directly from the UPS driver. Was a new one to my area and I caught him before he handed it over thanks to our dogs barking. I've usually got my wife home and she's fully capable of doing stuff or if we're both out ill have my apprentice there doing prep work. It's insane the shit you end up seeing as a home based dealer. Speaking of that last week I had a woman call every hour on the hour until her delivery came that day. Then she failed the background check.
