So I bought one of those pap m85 ak pistols back a while. It’s the one that has an adapter to take AR mags. It’s pretty badass but I HATE the way the sb47 brace looks on it.
One of these:

But with all this time on my hands i am looking for projects and thinking of installing the CNC warrior brace: https://www.bonesteelarms.com/M92-M85-Folding-Arm-Brace-FS-AB-M92.htm

Problem is it takes drilling a hole in rear of gun to install. I am a fairly good wood worker like I’ve built furniture and stuff. But I have little metal work experience.

Anyone done this?

Anybody heard of bonesteelarms? CNC is out of stock. They also have a drill kit that is out of stock as well. Ugh. so I’d be free handing this.

I've watched several youtube videos of installs, doesn't look difficult with the right tools. A good drill press makes it simple.

I've wanted to add the CNC brace to either my Palmetto AK-V or their AK-P Krink clone.

No drill press. Would be hand drilling it. Am I an idiot or do I need to find a friend with a press?

Personally, I have found that for precision hand held METAL DRILLING, I do better with the smaller diameter size bits, and, not drilling very deep. Your mileage may differ!

Do you have to drill have more than one hole? If, yes,... do they have to be perfectly aligned with each other? If, yes,... I would do my best to find a drill press.

Good Luck!

Does the mount on this replace the rear trunnion or am I missing something? I have built a few side folders and under folders.

That's how I would do it,... IF,... I didn't have to go more than 1 " deep. more than that and I have a tendency to go off angle, in metal.

From what I can gather it is a single bolt through the back plate below where the tang would be on a regular ak. The hinge portion goes around the outer edges of the back of the ak and the bolt pulls it in snug.

Similar to how the PSA ak bolts stocks in and the sam7k but they already have the rear hole in the back plate (trunnion?) so I would need to drill a hole because the paps do not have one.

That does look a bit awkward to drill straight. I would clamp it in a drill vise and do it in a drill press. If you wanted to try a hand drill though, you have the right idea. Start with a 1/8 or 3/16, if you can get the hole straight you're in good shape to go to 5/16 then 3/8.
MAKE SURE you get good drill bits. Home Depot is not gonna cut it for this job, pun intended lol.
I like Viking Drill and Tool, they are available on Amazon.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Is there any way I hurt the value of the gun by drilling it? I usually don’t baby anything and spray paint most of my guns.

BUT they aren’t making these anymore. And I only found one on gunbroker and it’s twice what I paid sooooo don’t want to be an idiot either.
