Hi. Just wondering what the consensus is on carrying insurance like USCCA? I believe carrying is a great responsibility and training and financial responsibility is a must (for me). Thought? Opinions?

I think it's the greatest scam since extended warranties for products.

Here's the thing. If you get involved in a shoot and it's a good shoot, you won't need insurance.

If you get involved in a shoot and it's a bad shoot, the insurance doesn't cover you.

It's a great way for some people to make a bunch of money with close to zero risk, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong but even if determined a good shoot, criminally, the shooter can still be sued in civil court where the burden of proof is 51/49. Even if the suit has nothing to it, a lawyer would still need to be obtained to prove the suit is BS.

I carry a million dollar umbrella policy with USAA. Inexpensive and does cover legal shooting liabilities, not to mention tons of other perils.

Thanks. I will look more into that. Even if it is a good shoot, the shooter will likely end up in court in some capacity. I get what you're saying but for a few bucks a week, in my opinion it is worth it. Hopefully I will never have to find out.

I choose to pay for USCCA. I charge it off as a business expense. I think it is a small price to pay.

I don't know even in a good shoot things can go horribly wrong or depending on the situation you may be detained or the cops that arrive on scene don't support your version of the events.

Remember the old board member from Tucson who had got into a fight with 3 people and shot all 3? Spent a considerable amount of time in jail, lost money and job, had tons of legal costs. He was innocent but man...what a toll to go through.

What if your "Good shoot" becomes a national headline?

Zimmerman woke up one day and didn't know over the course of 3 years that he would have a 3.1 million dollar legal bill.

It's the same reason why I carry every day. I carry because I would rather have it and not need that need it and not have it.

ARS 13-413...If I recall correctly this statute has been in effect for many, many years. I first learned about it in the academy in the 1980's.
