Ceramic generally has been received better alongside being lighter. As someone else stated AR500 is local and has a lot of options out there.

Looking to stop AK rounds is quite specific? Where are you expecting a lot of AK fire from? Rioters and Looters?

I'm glad you feel so angry. Now I know who and what you are. Back in my day I was there, done more than you and started the standard for what you call a operation but I dont flont it. I don't talk about what I did when where and how. But you seem to have a God complex in trying to somehow define yourself with what you did or didn't do. That's cool I dont care. If I was going to run armor it would be to simply be able to get home or get to my family in case of emergency.

More along the lines of Korean Rooftop store owner and assisting in protecting my community.

That would be the level of protection I would want to have that would be the info I am looking for. So with that being said Level III and up would be more than adequate? Do I need a helmet? Is it necessary?

My personal opinion is that a helmet is not necessary at this time. Might be nice to have after you squared everything else away.

III is ok, but understand that high velocity 55gr 5.56 can defeat it. If you are budget concise Hesco routinely has their IV standalone on sale

Yes, You need a helmet, if only to not bump your head, but you will find it helps more often than you thunk.
For me, armor is only useful around the house for standing in cover areas on watch duty- I can't hump it anymore and refuse to try. I can barely patrol nekid...

And a bump helmet doesn't need to be armoured. So there are a lot of helmets out there to choose from.

Level III will stop handgun and shotgun. It will not stop rifle rounds. You have to go to Level IV.

Hesco has exactly that - is considered good quality and is typically reasonably priced. A front and back plate are usually good enough. Side plates are personal preference.

"Life is tough. Get a helmet." I always get a chuckle out of that. A helmet is a nice to have, but as Tim indicated, lower on the list.

You are thinking of IIIA, which is a soft vest rating for handgun and shotgun rounds. III is hard armor rated for rifle rounds.
