Wagner mercenaries have been active in Africa recently trying to destabilize existing governments and install pro Russian proxies. Ukraine Special Operations Forces have been working in Sudan to neutralize the Wagner forces.

Since there aren't enough Russians who want to go die in Ukraine, Russia has been recruiting foreigners to "die for the motherland." Here is a Somali who was captured by Ukraine after being screwed over by his Russian "benefactors."

The wounded and captured Russian Army major in post #116 gives an interview (in Russian with closed captions) where he discusses what happened to him near Andriivka. Major Timur Abdurakhmanov from Dagestan was a battalion commander in the72nd Motorized Rifle Brigade which has essentially been annihilated during attacks on Andriivka, near Bakhmut.

GoPro video of an assault on Russian positions last August.

The Americans, Canadians, and Ukrainians destroyed 22 Russians at the stronghold. 08/23/2023

I analyze in detail one of the most spectacular videos of the Russian-Ukrainian war. These unique August shots of the taking of the enemy's position in the Avdiyiv direction will go down in history as an exemplary assault on the enemy's commanding height, performed in character. Honor and glory to the reconnaissance company of the 59th motorized infantry brigade!

This sort of thing shows why the combat footage from GoPros and other video devices can be so valuable. It allows for after-action briefings and reports to instruct what works and what doesn't; what went wrong and what went right. I'm certain there are folks at the Pentagon poring over videos like these to study how NATO's tactics and training is actually interacting with the opponent they were created to deal with. Especially since NATO tactics have been usually devised with having overmatch support backing them up, which groups like this don't have. How does NATO assault doctrine work when you don't have air power on call?

Chechen Kadyrovite speaking in Chechen language while filming video. Chechnya was defeated by Russia in the Second Chechen War and the Chechens still have a great deal of hate and resentment towards Russians.

The Russian subtitles from this video and the English translation are below.

давай я снимаю (let me film)

Kadyrovites are frequently used as barrier troops by the Russians to prevent soldiers sent on attack from retreating. The Kadyrovites have been more than happy to kill Russians when given the oppportunity.

The latest Russian ship sunk in the Black Sea by Ukrainian drone boats is the landing ship Caesar Kunikov.

This is the fourth Ropucha-class vessel that Ukraine has either destroyed or damaged possibly beyond repair in seven months. The Olenegorsky Gornyak was similarly attacked in August by sea drones; the Minsk was hit by Storm Shadow/SCALP cruise missiles in September, while undergoing repair in Sevastopol, when a Kilo-class submarine was also destroyed. In December cruise missiles struck the Novocherkassk while in port at Feodosia in Crimea, triggering a massive secondary explosion that Ukrainian intelligence sources believe was caused by its cargo of Iranian-made Shahed drones.

The Russian helicopter pilot who defected to Ukraine and was interviewed in post #112 above was found shot to death in Spain.

The Russian pilot who defected to Ukraine with a Mi-8 helicopter in August was found shot to death in Spain last week, according to media reports in Ukraine and Spain.

A spokesperson for Ukraine's military intelligence confirmed the death of Maksym Kuzminov to the Kyiv Post but did not provide details. According to the outlet, Russian media reported Kuzminov had been found dead with at least five bullet wounds in an underground parking lot in southern Spain, near Alicante.

EFE, a Spanish news agency, reported that Kuzminov's body was found on February 13 and that he had been living in Spain with a Ukrainian passport and an alternative name, according to Reuters. Spanish police could not confirm to the outlet that the body found was that of Kuzminov, but an unnamed police source said the victim may have lived under a fake name.

Reuters said La Informacion, a Spanish newspaper, reported two suspects left the scene in a vehicle that was later found burned. Police initially thought the death may have been gang-related, The Guardian reported.

Ukrainian Himars kill 65 Russian soldiers lining up to greet commander

More than 65 Russian soldiers have been killed in a Himars strike as they lined up in formation to greet a commander at a military base in the Donetsk region, Russian sources said.

Moscow-aligned military bloggers reported that three High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or Himars, struck a base of Russia’s 36th Separate Guards Motorised Rifle Brigade in the occupied village of Trudivs’ke in southern Donetsk.

Pictures and videos shared on social media appeared to show dozens of bodies strewn across a field, with others being lined up by survivors.

The strike was launched at about 9am on Tuesday when the military brigade was assembling, BBC Russia reported.

Servicemen of the 4th, 5th and 6th companies of the brigade were awaiting the arrival of Major General Oleg Moiseev, the commander of the 29th Army of the Eastern Military District, when the missiles struck.

Another Russian A-50 was shot down over the Sea of Azov.

a3.png

Incredibly, the Russian air force has lost another one of its rare Beriev A-50M/U Mainstay radar early-warning planes. Video that circulated online on Friday reportedly depicts the A-50’s burning wreckage in Krasnodar Krai, in Russia just east of the Sea of Azov.

The location of the crash, at least 120 miles from the front line in southern Ukraine, could indicate the four-engine, 15-person radar plane either suffered a mechanical failure—or took a hit while operating closer to the front and tried to make it back to its base in Krasnodar before exploding.

For what it’s worth, the Ukrainian air force claimed it shot down the A-50 with assistance from the intelligence directorate in Kyiv.

Either way, it’s a devastating blow for the battered Russian air force. The air arm has lost, mostly to Ukrainian long-range surface-to-air missiles—American-made Patriot PAC-2s, in particular—nine of its best planes in just a month. Including an A-50 that the Ukrainians hit over the Sea of Azov in January.

Prior to that earlier shoot-down, the Russian air force had just nine modernized A-50M/Us. Now it’s down to seven, just a few of which are active at any given time.

The A-50s play important supporting roles in Russia’s two-year wider war on Ukraine. They help to detect incoming Ukrainian missile raids and also relay radio signals from front-line forces to their headquarters, which might be hundreds of miles away.

Yep,...very important to take those out before the F-16s arrive, so they can whoop ass without being effectively intercepted too well. One of the first priority targets that will be attempted once the Falcons arrive will be to smash to bits the railway and roads from Mariupol to Melitopol and Crimea. Partnering the Patriot batteries taking out the A-50s and the ATACMS going after the mobile ground-based radars and SAMs will be key to letting the F-16s roughly rape the Russians raggedly in righteous rage repeatedly. Looking forward to Russia's summer of suffering.

During the current Ukrainian incursion into Russia's Kursk Oblast, the Ukrainians ambushed a convoy of Russian vehicles being sent to engage the Ukrainian forces with HIMARS. This is the result.

What warhead was used to cause this destruction of the convoy?
.
.
Produced in 2015, the M30A1 rockets were created as a type of area weapon with effectiveness similar to that of cluster munitions but without their issues. This refers to the problem of duds that can pose a deadly threat even decades after a war.

The desired effect was achieved using a special warhead known as the Alternative Warhead (AW), which contains explosive material and a load of 182,000 tungsten balls. The AW warhead is designed to explode about 33 feet above the target, thoroughly covering a significant area with shrapnel.
