A FAL is a lot better battle rifle. It has been one of the top choices (that & the G3) for a half century by those that need the firepower over that of a 'poodle shooter'.

Maybe not a better target rifle past 400m in the basic form, but it can be tuned to enhance performance without resorting to expensive gunsmithing and reliability reducing mods.

The FAL is a lot easier to maintain, select options for (less $), and is a lot less ammo-sensitive.

Get one if you want something you can bet your life on.
