I'd like to pick up a nice, reasonably priced, 1911 to use with a suppressor. The Remington 1911 R1 enhanced looks like it fits the bill, but I've heard and read a lot of bad things about Remington's recent quality.

Anyone have a recent Remington 1911? How is it?

What other 1911s with factory threaded barrel should I consider?

Slide cut for a mini red dot is a plus, but not a requirement.

I had a Remington 1911 R1 Enhanced Threaded Barrel. It ran well, quality overall on mine was good (although the feed ramp was a bit rough and needed polished). I sold it, just not a 1911 guy.

Almost forgot, mine didn't run as well with the factory magazines, but was flawless with Wilson Elite Tactical Magazines and Tripp Research Cobra Magazines (8R-45-RG).

I also had a Remington Enhanced. Mine did not have a threaded barrel though.
It seemed to shoot fine. I didn't have any problems with it that I can think of.
I probably shot 400 to 500 rounds through it. They all fired.
I didn't have it too long , maybe six months or so before I sold it.
I ended up selling all my 45's and it went with the others.

It's been awhile , but I would say the quality was good. I can't think of anything that was bad about it.
It wasn't the nicest one I had , but it didn't cost as much either.
When I bought mine it was right around $500.

Slide to frame fit was tight on mine. Finish was better than Rock Island, but not as good as Springfield. I would rank the Remington 1911's as being in the same tier as Ruger 1911s.

just pick up a threaded barrel and add to your fav unit, or semi fav unit, or as you wish buy a dedicated one, so many options for threaded units.

i will say, i have not owned a r1911 of the new batch, but have a gaggle of other manufactureres.
good luck, always tough to pick a new one, hehehe, buy'm all, re sale is the thing.

How hard is it to fit a 1911 barrel?

I looked awhile back at threaded barrels and they were $200. I can't remember if that included the bushing. At $200 it feels like buying a whole pistol is money better spent...... maybe not :eusa-think:

I bought a threaded barrel and dropped it into a 1911, and it did not work. Showed it to Ted Yost, who looked at it for about 30 seconds -- no measuring or anything, just looked. He took a file to the rear of the hood section and gave it a couple of strokes. Again, no measurement, didn't even put the barrel into a vise, just held the barrel in one hand and a file in the other. Dropped it back into the gun, fit perfectly, runs perfectly.
To answer your question, it is likely to require fitting. If I had tried to do it myself, I would never have figured out where to file and how much, and I probably would have ruined it. Unless you are a gunsmith, or intend to have a gunsmith fit it, it's probably easier to buy a gun that already has a threaded barrel.

I have a Remington R1 enhanced with threaded barrel. I love it. It's better than my kimber and my colts. Of course I polished my feed ramps and chamber.
