The secret to a good April Fool's jest is that the thing has to be something the sucker just wants to believe soooooo bad.

The one I started back in 2000 was that Janet Reno's plane had gone down over the ocean and presumed dead. The internet was still not instantaneous news capable quiet yet, so when it couldn't be verified right away, a lot of people bought it because they WANTED it sooooo bad.
