I began hand loading some 60+ years ago. At that time it was to save money. Later it was to wring the best accuracy from hunting rifles, though I cast bullets for pistols, and saved money. Today, my equipment has paid for itself many times over so the increasing cost of powder and primers is not as important to me as it would be for someone faced with buying equipment. There has been a great deal of satisfaction from taking game with my handloads, whether with rifle, pistol or shotgun.

I also started loading almost 60 years ago. As AZPete said at first it was to save money but now it's primarily for getting the most accurate loads for my rifles and handguns. As noted the equipment has paid forirself many times over. I stocked up on powder and primers many years ago and stilll have a life time supply of both.

not sure why anyone that shoots a gaggle wouldn't reload, its a zen thing for some, accuracy thing for others, and well, what happens when you can't buy what you want, innovation in reloading has and always is done by the private sector, just saying,

Necessity, I like old iron. Have yet to find 50-70, 8x58rd anywhere (yes old south has 8x58rd $120/20). I can also load down to "safe" pressures for my actions.
