Why do some new pistols come with a rubber band on the grip now?

I've seen it from Ruger, Mossberg and Stoeger recently.

They all come with a Lance Armstrong livestrong type band around the grip. Does this serve any actual purpose?

its for your wrist to snap yourself to remind you to load up yer gat and carry it, forgetful don't work, ask me how i know

Sigs used to come with paper vs rubber....I always chuckled when I looking at used Sigs and the seller had put the paper ring back on.

It's just a bit of advertising, in a sense. Something to make the firearm stand out a bit in a display case full of (what appears to new gun buyers to be) pistols that are virtually indistinguishable from each other.

I agree its to pop out in a showcase but I also think its to represent the gun is brand new, since most gun owners would throw it away when they take their gun out. Just a thought.
