So our last Rottie would make noises and bark after my wife was finished eating to give him a treat.

This continued with our female after he passed, but she expects something after my wife takes a drink of water and puts the bottle down.

So who trains who?

Pets are wonderful :D

Would love to get another dog, just can take the heartbreak of putting them down after a long companionship

We lost one of our girls last night...

Last night F'n sucked. Today is pretty rough.

It's always tough, but I will continue to torture myself on the rare occasion for all the years of joy they bring.

I love dogs.
I have had quite a few in my life. Never had a bad one. ( Other people might think different ).
It is hard when they go and I have said the same thing. " I can't do this again ".
But I do.

What really gets me is when people say , " I love this dog but have to get rid of it " for some lame reason or another.
A dog is a life time commitment and if you are not willing to to abide by that , you have no business owning one.

I couldn't agree more. I would have a hard time trusting people who give up their dogs like that.

I have two dogs that were given up by owners who found them to be inconvenient or something. They are both very loyal obedient pets and good companions. Very watchful and protective as well. In short, they are as good as any other dogs I've had. I've had dogs most of my life. I would NEVER consider giving either of these dogs away.

Of course it's never easy losing a pet but it's the price you have to pay for all those good years together. I've found that replacing a lost pet soon helps me through the grief a bit.

Ideally, my pets live to old age and when they get up in years, I like to bring in a young dog while my old guy is still around. That way the new dog learns the drill by watching the old guy and it makes training so much easier.

Yep, have always gotten rescues and never had a bad dog. People who give up dogs because, "they shed too much", "too much energy", can't have puppies for me to make money", have all given me great dogs who appreciate their new normal life with us.

We also agree that's its a life long commitment to take in an animal such as a dog. The one and only time we have ever rehomed up a dog has been after we had kids and that was not an easy thing to do. The rescue we had was fine with us but as it turns out was not ok with young kids. He was constantly on edge, nervous and anxious all day every day, nothing we tried seemed to work calm him unless there where no kids around. We ended up rehoming with a older family member and its been a good relationship for them both and we still get to visit. Funny as that dog does not forget us and he is stoked to see us every time. Still hate that we had to rehome him but it felt right by the dog to do so and he is still within the family.

We just had to put down our senior dog last year and that's some hard times for sure.

The pup we lost over the weekend came to us as a re-home. The family had one child and the dog. The dog was being trained as dad's bird dog. They then had a second child, and the older child got very jealous. Taking it out on the dog. Hitting, biting, ect.

They chose the right thing for the dog. She came to live with us, and was a great dog.

Sounds to me like they should discipline their kid once in awhile.
There is no excuse for mistreating an animal no matter how old you are.

I'm not gonna tell an otherwise stable woman with a 2yo and an infant sht about how to run their life. Knock yourself out though. Please report back how it goes.

Worked out for me and the pup.

I never said anything about telling anyone anything.

I can say that nobody will ever mistreat an animal on my property , I don't care how old they are.

Sounds like they needed to get rid of the kid causing the problem and not the dog

Have a great, gun carryin', Kenpo day
