This site is run by the original azs owner? Could use some promotion on other sites as I happened to find it by chance.

Yes. I'm open to suggestions - I'm not sure how appropriate it would be for me to join other forums and post links to this one - I surely wouldn't think it appropriate if others did that here. However, if long-time members of other forums post about it on those to let people know about this, that would be kosher - and helpful, apparently, as you found out.

I'm open to other ideas of 'marketing' - but not looking to draw the demographic here that merely misses backpage and only want to buy/sell. I'm trying to go with the original intent to make it more of a discussion community - not nameless classifieds. Hope that makes sense.

I posted on a couple. As long as it isn't another shooting forum, they shouldn't get too upset. Everyone
else should probably post on their local hobby forums as well, you never know what interests overlap.

Thank you ! As one who very rarely ever looked for guns on Backpage due to the type of people I came across. Although I maybe I had less than 25 transactions of all types on AZS.com, everyone was great due to knowing the person directly or at least having communicated via posting within them for some time. My knowledge of firearms related subjects has increased so much from dealing with the knowledge base that existed. I've gone from a user of a tool I was trained in to a builder, a better reloader, a competitor, etc.. My interest in the old site slowed as Petty bull shit started and the only part of the site with the largest number of updated postings was classifieds from people I had never heard of on other parts of the site. I hope this does not happen again. Brian , I has confidence in you, but WE all need to support you in making it great.

+1 Same here towards the end I rarely went to the site for the same reason.

On side note, people keep skipping this important note.

From what little I gathered by snooping around online, the issue was with the former hosting site, which suddenly stopped providing service for AZS. They did the same to a few other Pro2A sites per snippets on the radio, so it makes sense.
Glad to have the site back either way.

No, they had DB corruption. As to why they don't have backups they could just revert to, who knows?

Frankly, when I transferred ownership of the site to [Brad], I thought he had the best intentions to continue running the site and make improvements which I didn't have the time to do (hence divesting myself of the site). No updates were done on it, per what I saw, and everything from the DB, to the forum software, etc, was severely out of date and without updates, it was only a matter of time before the site would be hacked or suffer a catastrophic failure. He monetized the site with Google ads (which I had not done) and when Google made policy changes for advertising on related sites many years ago, I'd imagine that he largely lost interest in dedicating time and effort to running, improving and maintaining the site since he lost what little financial incentive he had. This is all speculation based on anecdotal evidence, though - other than the site being down because of database corruption that isn't recoverable.

Thanks. People keep conflating the two sites. The only thing they have in common, really, is me - and that was only for the first half of AZS.com's existence.

Even if I owned the data and it were query-able (if not recoverable), I would never in a million years bother to go through and try to recreate users post counts to join dates, especially without the content to link it to. The obvious assumption is that account longevity and number of posts lends some sort of credibility to your online forum persona. Not really. Everyone here has a chance to start again from zero and build up their profile through new topics, sharing knowledge and experience.

I went on vacation and was kind of hoping that the site would be back online before I returned home but obviously not. Thanks to Admin for jumping in to the fray once again. Hopefully it will be what AZshooting was in the early days.

Glad to see the new site up and running. I used to spend a decent amount of time on there back in the day, by when the see saw went towards the anti leo mindset, i bailed. Thanks Admin for getting this going.

Thanks for resurrecting the forum. I understand how much hard work it takes to run something like this and appreciate your efforts.

I am new to the AZ shooting scene and didn't have much experience with the previous site, as we only bought our house here in May of 2017.

Besides, IIRC, we lost join dates and post counts once or twice before. Quantity doesn't always have a quality all it own. Sometimes you're just a ??????? hoarder.

Yeah but you sure put up with a lot of crap from a person quoting bible verses in his signature line, glad you didn't give in and leave like he wanted. That should have been ended by site owner.

... I got the impression Brad simply lost interest.....

It was my impression he never gave a crap after the first few months.

I'd agree. He was a gun-guy, but he was also a law student and I think he was intending on using it more as a vehicle to make a profit rather than continue running it as a community. Since that wasn't ever my intent with it, the site was ripe to start squeezing what he could out of it: more ads, GoogleAds. I could be off, but that is my impression after-the-fact.

I still got a lot of PM's from people for years asking about advertising on the site, which I would always forward to him, and several years ago, the "administrator" account just stopped even going to the site much less read the PM's forwarded. *shrug*

Obviously, he got what he wanted out of it, otherwise he'd have been more active. So here we are, with ArizonaShooting.ORG now. We'll move forward and I won't make the same mistake with the site again. Other than the content being gone from all those years, I think we in a better position overall. That site had a lot of baggage associated with it from the last 6-8 years or so...

8-)
