which would you choose?

tarp, pot, fishing rod and knife.

Assuming that the island is reasonably large and has flora/fauna, not a cartoony 80sqft sand pile with one palm, and that there's no immediate chance of rescue.

Tarp and pot let me collect/purify fresh water, and would be difficult to make quickly (quick is important for water). A knife is the cornerstone past that. Need tools to make tools. Fishing rod after that, because the rest are really fairly close, and the fishing line that comes with the rod is also difficult to replicate. A mirror was a close second, but was preempted by my assumption that rescue was NOT imminent.

I agree with your selection-
most of the others are dependent on specific conditions and have finite uses and lifetime.

I was thinking of multiple use for items: Pot for cooking, collecting, etc. I would use the hammock for the canvas blanket and the rope inside of it. Tarp for collecting, shelter with the hammock ropes, etc. Finally the knife for all of its purposes.

Those are my 4 items as well.

So far most everyone adds pot to their list.
Are we talking about the cooking pot or the smoking pot ?
I see they are both on the chart.
Nobody has added matches.
Either pot will need fire to work , unless of course you are using it for a chamber pot.
Then again I guess you can rub sticks together to get fire.
