Like Flash, love my P220's in .45, but do use 9mm alot these days. Many years ago in a far off land I could only use 9mm in subs and sidearms. .45 was our dream, but now with the vast improvements in modern projectiles and powders, 9mm works well ! Wish we had this stuff 40 years ago.

9mm, its light, fun and fast. Although there are times that short, fat and slow are called for.

There are a lot of women who prefer short fat and slow to long slim and done already. More pleasure for her.

If its strictly self defense I guess 9mm because I can have a lot on board but sometimes shooting is just for the damn fun of it and so I voted .357

For just plain giggles I find the .357 recoil, accuracy, sound and push out of a revolver to put a giant sloppy grin on my face.

Now i have a G20 coming .. maybe it will give me what both of these do??

I’ve migrated to 9mm as the preferred CCW caliber.

Small, light and manageable with plenty of confidence that the Hornady Critical Duty/Defense will get the job done if I do my part.

Recently vetted a P365 for carry rotation, so capacity is less of an issue.

I swore to uphold the Constitution against all enemies. 9mm is carried world wide. I wanted to use something that I could feed no matter who showed up to the fight. I did shoot .45 acp for over a decade , bit changed over to 9mm for many of the reasons already stated by others. Yup . . A little less energy than a 45,. . .but more than 2x the rounds in the mag, that means i am in control of where the energy gets distributed. And it still has plenty of weight and energy to penetrate to vital organs. It's a close call, but 9mm gets my vote.

hehe, i just wonder as most gun guys are the cheapest sobs other than bass fisherman on the face of the earth, just how much of the selection process is based on $$$ versus actual wanting of the caliber of choice,

some it will be cost, some it will be round count, some it will be because of their ability to shoot it well, and well there is the ridicule of not shooting what the popular boys and girls do.
just a thought.

I prefer 45acp for carry as it is sub sonic and I won't go deaf if I had to shoot from my truck or inside my home.
Favorite handgun caliber though is 41 Remington Magnum. I am able too shoot DA efficiently with it, 44 mag is just too much for me to shoot well DA.

Up here my primary carry is 357mag but it goes in stages. I can cast and swage all of what I use, I swage for some and cast for others. 44mag does most the work around here and so does the 12ga.

Cost is the primary concern, for the cost, I can make my own real cheap. I wont even fiddle with 9mm and smaller, well.....I do cast my 25acp.

I have levers in 357 and 44 so ammo is easier to deal with.

These days revolvers are so underrated. Don't get me wrong, I carry a 9mm for capacity and world wide availability. But . . . .if I could only have 1 gun (based on performance) It would have to be the .357 mag. Range, penetration, load diversity, power to size ratio . . . . And you CAN get better penetration than a 44 mag.

@lostdog99

If I want what I call dangerous game loads in 38&44&45cal I just make these.

And for something that can outperform even an xtp bullet I do these in 45&44cal.

After they hit ordinance gel.

9mm for a few reasons, cost, availability (OK, when not in a ammo run) but most of all, my wife and children will be able to shoot it in the event of an emergency.
I wanted something the still is effective and does not have as much recoil for them to handle it.

Tuff choice between the 9mm and 45. I am pretty split down the middle but I do prefer reloading 45 more than the 9. But because of the AR 9mm I voted for the 9mm. Do they make an AR in 45?

This place does.
