Where to find good quality tamales?

I don't know about the tamales, but some the best Mexican food is found in Globe.
Green chile burritos from The Burger House in Miami are awesome.
There are a lot of family restaurants in Globe.Maybe they sell tamales.
 
my rub on eatery tamales are most are palatable, but more masa than filling, i can say i on occassion enjoy a green one with coffee, kinda like a mexican croissant. heheheh
 
I'm thinking I must be the only guy on this message board who doesn't like tamales.

Maybe I've just never had good ones. All the ones that have made it to my plate have been about 80% Masa and 20% meat. Blah.
 
I think the ones from Fry's are pretty good. Nothing amazing, but pretty solid. I like the pork ones, but beef was on sale so that's what I've got for lunch today.

I took a few hours off today to head out and try these tamales. I bought 2 dozen without trying them. I just finished two of them. These are the tamales that rule all others. I'm talking better than grandma's. I have finally found really good tamales.

They take a lot of time to make. Meat one day, masa the next. Then assembling them and steaming them. They go together better when cold. Press them together well at the bottom so the spices stay on the meat in the middle. When I do the meat I put it in gallon bags and make half into tamales now and the rest in a couple months. I have a commercial kitchen in one of my buildings and I put in a pair of commercial steamers. I used to do it as a party and had friends come to the shop, they would buy meat and masa that I made and I would show them how to assemble. Each steam tray held 120 tamales and then when we had 10 trays we would load and steam them. Most did one or two trays and we fast chilled them and bagged for freezing. It was a fun day. We cranked out between 4-8,000 tamales in one day, easy when you fully steam 2,400 a hour. Most of my friends turned into a bunch of do nothing people and only 10 people showed up this year, used to have about 50 people that showed up over the 12 hour day I did them.

Tamales are best made with groups of friends, who says it has to be a Mexican thing.

Count me in, I know some of my friends will want to join and pay for it.

I have tamale lady I text for them as well as special requests.

$18 a dozen

Her tamales are the only one I struggle resisting eating entire dozen in one sitting. Everything else is meh but still open to try what you guys recommend just out of curiosity.
 
Not sure my lady would put a number on what a dozen would run, she mostly does it for the katty bs between her and the nuns...

One would be amazed what gossip a couple boxes of White Claws can stir..

Every so often I am reminded that there are massive divisions between the Southwest and the rest of this great Nation, and never so much as the Christmas Season and Drug Deal Tamales.

For those poor, un-tamaled folks outside of the Southwest, this Season heralds the appearance of Little Old Mexican Ladies -- or their representatives -- who bring tamales.

Now, most Health Departments have rules, regulations, and ordinances regarding the things you have to do before you are allowed to sell pre-made foodstuffs.

On the other paw, most abuelitas don't give to hoots in hell about the regs concerning commercial food productions -- nor do they have any interest in ponying up the fees and other dosh required to become sanctified by the Bureacracy.

So, a lot of these tamales are sold on the sly -- depending on how tolerant the local Health Department is. They'll be a battered pickup, or four-door car in a parking lot, you pass over cash and receive a ziplock baggie containing a brick-sized lump of tinfoil with Heaven stuffed into little cornhusk packets.

Or someone in your office knows someone, who knows someone, and will pass along your order, or take up a collection.

Yes, you can get tamales from actual, certified restaurants and suppliers, but I've never had tamales as good as those from a random Mexican grandmother, passed over still steaming, and wolfed down at a stop-light, or in the driveway.

These tamales -- either pork or chicken -- are a big part of Christmas for me, and I kind of feel sorry for those folks in other parts of the Country who have never had them.

well i stopped getting the tameles in coolers by the road, when i opened them there was mold and the person said sorry and threw them back in the cooler and said here have these.
 
I’m here in El Paso for Christmas, just picked up 6 dozen of green chili with chicken which will bring a sweat to your forehead, and 3 dozen red.

Then the family brought me another 4 dozen red, the vacuum sealer is getting a workout.

With the sealer they last all year in the freezer.
