The latest info I can find is that he was fired - but that's it... Did they release any more info or details about what occurred?

Probably still under internal review by the department.

But since they already fired him, doesn't that kinda reveal what the department thought of it? I mean, if it was a grey area, they usually keep those people on "paid administrative leave" or "desk duty" - but they already fired this officer. I was just curious if that was the end of it; ie, it was a 'firing offense' and that was it - no charges, no absolution, no 'this is what happened'... just seems kinda odd.

Does Tucson have any sort of review board, such as re-appointed the Phoenix cop that shot Whitaker?

Probably.
If Phoenix & Mesa (Brailsford) are any indication, he'll get his job back w back pay

According to this, the cop just got fired Wednesday.

Why is he not indicted and awaiting trial?

That PD up in Phoenix that let off the JBT that gunned down the guy lying on his stomach will hire him if he is not put behind bars first.
