Interesting question.

I found an airtag in a car that I bought and took the battery out of it. A few days later the seller asked if I had it, his wife wanted it back...weird for sure.

I don't use apple products but airtags can be a good way to track your possessions if they are stolen. I know some people hide them in gun cases when shipping high dollar guns. If you hid one in your car you would be able to report the vehicle's exact location to police if it were stolen.

I hear the wise thing is put one where it can be found with a little searching, a second where it will be very hard to find.

I saw a video of someone putting one in a plastic bag and then putting in in the oil fill opening. Car got totaled , it went dead for a while (no i phone in range) then popped up in China!

I have airtags in all my cars, one on my dog, one in my wife's hiking bag, and one in my carry bag.
