So... 10 or 15 years maybe on this forum, met many good people from face to face gun buying and selling. Generally have been staying away from the discussion areas as they have been dominated by people just fighting and being silly. Now I've learned that this cannot continue as I am not "part of the community" despite attending open carry dinners, benefits, fund raising events, demonstrations - all events that I learned about through this forum. Sorry if I prefer to talk with you guys and gals in person and I am not much of a keyboard warrior, but such as the algorithm decides I cannot participate in the classified areas of this forum as I am not a good member of the community. Meh

So I don't understand. Are you upset?

Seems the miscommunication is this is the same old site we all used to be a part of. Think of this forum as a fresh start. None of the accolades from previous history is grandfathered here.

Not upset. I have just been lurking around the Classifieds, and reading some other threads about once a week or so for years and had no idea what was going on as I could not get in this week.

I've held off saying what I'm about to say because I generally don't give a f**k about dumb crap, but here goes: The people running this place should have given notice that things were changing. You have a set of rules but change sh*t without notice and expect people not to get their panties in a bunch. If you were smart you would have said, beginning in one month if you don't participate and get a certain number of posts that have significant value, you won't be able to have access to the classifieds. Then no one can cry about it. Changing things without notice, puts you on the defensive and pisses some people off. Now I'll go back to not giving a f**k.

I contemplated PM's to everyone, but I'd likely get MORE complaints from doing that. Last time I did that with the .com site, I got accused of spamming because users had email notifications of PM's turned on - and I only did it ONE TIME in ~6 years of running it.

Since day 1 on this site - about 2 years - it has been posted as a sticky (ie, perpetual #1 topic) in the "New Forums... Welcome" thread. Still there today; hasn't changed.

It has also been posted in the "Classified Ad Rules" at the top of all the Classified Ads forum since Day 1. I elaborated a bit on it last month to hopefully address specific questions, but the same info was there about the purpose of the site and restricted access to classifieds since Day 1.

I also added another sticky called "Classified Ads here? How do I get access?" last month.

Even further, for a week last month, I had a big pink notification that popped up on everyone's visit to the site above all the forums right under the logos that was hard to miss, about changes. I even got complaints about THAT being there - not the content - the fact that it was even THERE.

So I'm sorry all that doesn't meet your approval or standard. 95% of the people that are "upset" about enforcing the standards that have been in the ToS/CoC all along (for 2 years) are those who have posted 12 times in 2 years with 11 of those posts being in the classifieds. They serve no purpose in furthering the goal of this site and are only here for themselves: to post a free ad to sell their stuff, or to snatch up a good deal they find.

I've been running web forums/BB's for over 20 years and regardless of how far we get, the mantra holds true that you can't please everyone.

There is a LOT of info here. I have learned A few things things here and have meet a few good people,all WITH OUT the classifieds.The classifieds Are nice but are not the WHOLE forum.Just my $.02

I go back to the .com days. Basically the same rules. No big deal. Arizonashooting.org is place to post topics, voice your opinion, ask for help with something firearms related, or give helpful advise. If you want classified only there's other sites out there that are just for that.

Exactly the response I expected. It's not about my approval or standard. It's not about policy, it's all about implementation of new policy. Implementation of a new policy is always more defensible when properly done, and puts the complainer on the defense, and the number of complainers goes way down. If there's a warning period then you've done it in a non ham fisted way. You didn't have to PM every one. The notification could have been done exactly the way you did it and then after a month or so it goes into effect. Whatever, do it the way you want and then you can answer all the complainers. Not my problem.
