Alright AZS, let's talk watches.

First, this isn't ARF, so we don't need to "Submariner, or go be poor somewhere else"...

I'm looking for one that won't be everyday. Prefer it to be black,charcoal,tungsten,etc. in color. It will need to be chronograph type, metal band..

Lately I've been looking at the MTM line. I like the options of the Cobra best, but the $1600 price tag is just a bit more than I'd like to spend. The Patriot, and Predator are also along the style I'm interested in.

What other brands are out there that offer similar styling that aren't Chinese POS?

I've worn Citizen Eco Drives for years...great watches that don't cost +$10,000 and keep the same time.

I think people that spend $300 or more for a watch are somewhat idiotic...No one cares what kind of watch you wear, and the people that will notice are douche bags.

You aren't kicking in doors in Abottabad. You aren't free diving to 300 feet and then wondering what time it is. You aren't HALO dropping into N. Korea. All watches keep the same time.

I've used jomashop.com for years to buy new watches, they have amazing prices.

I also recommend Citizen Watches. I had one of their Thunderbird's cuz it had dual time zones and I traveled a lot so i could set one to home and one to local. Now I'd go with the Eco drive if I were to get another. I had a Seiko once but it didn't hold up. I have a cheap Timex plastic somethingorother that has outlasted them all and is still ticking in the drawer.

Another vote for Citizen here, especially the Eco-Drive series.

Now that I think about it, watches are one of the few things I still buy at brick-and-mortar shops. I figure if I'm going to be getting links removed and batteries changed (though, the Eco-Drives don't need to worry about batteries), doesn't hurt to support the place by purchasing the merchandise there.

MTM is great from what I hear - a lot of options there. Another brand on the same level is Resco. On the cheaper but still good quality end take a look at Luminox and G Shock.

I have been using Pulsar since the 70's.
I wear a watch every day and I don't have a desk job.
The crystals get scratched up pretty good but they keep on working.

I've been wearing a Seiko Dive Watch daily since 1978. Had it cleaned and oiled 3 times over the years.

It's been to 110 feet deep but that's it.

If I get to 110 feet I might as well have a good chrono so I can time how long till I drowned. I used to be fat enough that buoyancy wasnt an issue. Now, well its probably 50 50.

I was an Assistant Instructor of SCUBA diving for around 3 years and I was amazed about how little fat can have to do with buoyancy.

The most buoyant person I ever saw was a woman in one of the classes. She was around 5' 7" or so, fairly thin but fairly large tatas. Couldn't get her under water, so we ultimately hung 35 pounds of lead on her weight belt. Still no dice. Finally the Instructor and I each got a foot and we pulled her down to around 10~15 feet deep where she became neutrally buoyant and then she went further on her own steam.

I LOVE my Seiko. I have had watches costing much much more but this guy looks good and keeps outstanding time. Must have had it some 7-8 years now... all the others are gone and I kept this one. Bang for buck is HIGH with the seiko's!

I took off my watch when I retired... These days every day is Saturday... time of day usually has no meaning...
If I need to know what time it is I look at my computer or cell phone. Still, some are a nice piece of bling for that special occasion.

ETA... Well, sometimes Time does have meaning....
Time to Eat, Time to take a nap, Time to go to the Dr., Time to go shooting...

Interesting you mention getting rid of your watch as I shoot two days a week with a mostly retired group of guys and gals and most of them did the same.

While I carry a cell phone it's quicker and easier for me to look at a day/date watch and see if I'm on time for appointments and things like that.

Citizen makes a good watch, the only issue I had with mine was the side push buttons would eventually get gummed up and I had to take it in for cleaning... make sure you get a watch shop that knows what they're doing- the last one really screw my watch up then couldn't/wouldn't fix their mistake. The other thing was all the time-distance-fuel dials were printed too small to read, especially in low light situations, so it was functionally useless for me.

My primary transport is 2 wheels and a fair sized watch is still the easiest and fastest way for me to tell the time when on the bike and the less goobldygook on the face the better. A big analog with bright hour and minute hands is about perfect.

Like most computer'y things now my bike dash has a clock .. and about 50 other bits of information all jammed into about a 5x4" space. I will be sticking with my watch :mrgreen:

haven't worn a watch in 30 years, dang things never worked well on me, they all had short lives, now i could give a shiat what time it is, unless its closing time at mywater hole.
