If you use a DJI drone (and I do), you may be aware of the "geofencing" feature DJI firmware includes. Essentially, your drone, when in operation, is at all times connected to GPS. Before flight, the drone checks in with the manufacturer via cell phone internet connection and checks if you are attempting to fly in restricted airspace, and will not let you if you are.
But the same ability to check on you and see where you are for safety's sake, can also be used to target you with an enemy rocket for war's sake,...as has been happening in Ukraine.
One of the ways the Chinese have been assisting Russian forces is snitching on whenever a DJI drone takes flight within the country. Since the Russians use their own proprietary drones, they assume that any commercial off the shelf drone is being used by local Ukrainians, probably to assist in locating and targeting Russians. So,...as quickly as the internet allows,...drone operator takes flight,...DJI reports to China a mission is in the air,...China calls Russia,...Russia calls forces in the field,...and somebody fires a mortar or rocket or other munition at the GPS coordinates of the flight controller.
