The largest U.S. arms retailer also said it would discontinue handgun sales in Alaska, the only state where it sells these guns.

Walmart will stop selling short-barrel rifle ammunition such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber after clearing current stock. While this type of ammunition is commonly used in some hunting rifles, they are also used in large capacity clips on military-style weapons, the company said.

Sales of handgun ammunition will also be discontinued, it said.

The CEO also said he will ask stores to stop allowing open carry unless police are present at the stores.
even in states where it is legal to carry.

Will stop selling handgun ammo!!

knee jerk libtard reaction, sad but not surprising. I went to my local walmart a few minutes ago, nothing sale priced. Guy behind the counter said expect normal prices and when they sell current stock it's gone after that.

The article says Walmart has a 20% share of the ammo market -- I'm guessing the casual gun owner who buys a box of "shells" (sic) now and then.

If those customers start going to local gun stores, that could be a good thing!

(Several years ago I went to Walmart to buy some .45 ACP. The helpful clerk told me they didn't have any. "But there it is, right there on the shelf." He pointed out it was marked ".45 Auto," and he assured me that .45 Auto would not work in .45 ACP. I told him I would take my chances, and bought 1000. He sold them to me reluctantly, warning me that there were no refunds on ammo.
True story; my word as a Biden.)

22LR is handgun ammo, it's also rifle ammo. OH WHAT TO DO, WALMART? WHAT TO DO?
Wait a minute. That psycho who shot Giffords bought his pistol ammo at Walmart. Oh dear. Maybe they should just stop selling any ammo that could fit into a high-capacity "clip."

Hmmm,... sounds like a greater market share for Wally's, Patriot competitors,.... I'm sure they will enjoy the increased sales/profits.

Well hopefully everyone, if they're not already, will treat Walmart like dick's. Let'em feel it right in the wallet.

Damn right. Not only stop buying ANY guns, ammo, or sporting goods, I won't buy anything at all from them. F**K em period.

Yes! I'll second that!!!

I was just at Walmart. Short but steady line of people stopping by to pick up a few boxes -- 200 rounds of 5.56, that sort of thing. No big run yet.
No blowout prices, either. Prices higher than what most of us pay buying case lots.

I shop at Fry's/Safeway. Only time I ever went to Walmart was when I wanted to check out the ammo counter. Now I no longer have that reason, so they will lose those occasional grocery sales.

Walmart is the biggest retailer in the world with stores all over the globe. Ammo is just a tiny fraction of sales and iirc only sold in the US and Canada.

They will NOT feel anything in the wallet from this.

Hmmm, well then, if ammo buyers don't buy any other products, stop their family members from buying groceries/cloths/etc., and convince friend to do the same,... would that hurt Wally, a bit or two?

Sorry, but Walmart wont even notice. Dicks is a grain of sand next to Walmart.
