Daniel Ortega fleeing gym 1.webp

As seen in this still taken from the officer's bodycam,...suspect, Daniel Ortega, went into the LVAC gym in Las Vegas armed with a rifle, fired 24 rounds, killing 1 and injuring several more.

His rifle reportedly jammed which caused him to stop his murder spree and he attempted to run on foot. Attempted being the key word.

This officer was outside making good use of cover (supposedly maintaining a perimeter while awaiting backup with his AR15 wearing a Sig Sauer red dot, Magpul RSA 1913 QD sling adapter, and UTG backup iron sights.

When the killer attempted to move past his position he was neutralized with multiple effective rounds saving the taxpayers millions and providing justice the victims.

You can see and hear the shooter got off a round at the officer. Notice the puff of debris off the wall behind the officer as the 2 rounds go off so close together.

Well this one shows something different from the usual. Most criminals that run while armed might fire a shot or two at their pursuers without really trying to land aimed shots, hoping it causes them to break off and seek cover. But this guy seemed to know some actual gunfighting principles. He only broke and ran far enough to create the time and distance to turn, plant his feet and take purposeful aim. In so doing, he was effective, and scored multiple hits on both the cops chasing him. Fortunately, this is uncommon and not what most fleeing criminals do.
