Valley Pizza options

For any of you looking to get outside of the chain mentality, here's some of my top finds.

Pat's Pizza Plus at Glendale and 12th St. Excellent taste-value ratio, with multiple sizes, and good wings, also. NO-frills, primarily takeout small dining area.

Parlor at 20th St and Camelback
Bit more snooty, and a great sit-down restaurant. One size, and no half-half options.
Bouji Italian menu

Trevor's Liquors at 36th St and Indian School
Yeah, the giant, high-class booze shop, but there's a restaurant on the r/h side. Limited menu.
They are so busy now, it's restricted to eat-in, then you can box up your remainder.

Cibo (CHEE-bo) on 5th Ave and Filmore. Get your Napolitano style fix like Bianco at half-the-price without the stupid wait.

Lamp Pizzeria at the NE corner of Pinnacle Peak and Pima Roads. Tucked into a little alcove of the shipping area. They only open at 4pm, and they make you wait forever for pick-up/take-out orders.
Either plan on staying there to eat, or start calling at 330pm to see if you can get a pick-up sometime before 6pm,LOL.

Mr. Moto...saved perhaps the best for last. Tucked beside the CVS Pharmacy at 40 st. and Camelback.
The only 'chain' here, but they're from San Diego. First store here in the valley. Just finished my 2nd visit tonight. Just GO......

How this is a thread I can get behind!

I just had a slice of pepperoni and mushroom pizza AJ's Fine Foods for lunch the other week and I have to say it was pretty good. Also, right on par with the price too, it was like $3 bucks for a large slice or something like that. A full pizza is like $12. Seemed like better ingredients as well.

Don't sleep on it is all I am saying.

Aj’s does make a tasty slice.

Obviously national chains suck; Pizza Hut makes the worst pizza I’ve ever had. I’m heating up a frozen pizza from Screamin Sicilian before I’m calling Pizza Hut or Dominos.

Venezia’s and Barro’s make a great pizza, while technically a “chain”.

Costco make a good slice, IMO.

I agree with [mention]QuietM4[/mention], Venezia's hits the spot for sure. They are getting real pricy though.

Costco for the win! I wish they had the combo still, thanks covid.

I'm one of those people who enjoys cold pizza, their pepperoni is pretty darn good cold. Plain cheese, not as much. But fresh out of the oven at Costco, plain cheese is hard to beat.

Venezia’s is getting more expensive, as is everything else; FJB. But I don’t mind, it’s great pizza.

There is one pizza place I have been eating at for over 40 years; literally since I was in the womb. LJ’s Pizza in Mesa (Main St west of Stapley). It’s excellent thin and crispy crust.

Since [mention]QuietM4[/mention] mentioned an older one in Mesa, never been to LJ's but I will have to add it to my list. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have to throw in Organ Stop Pizza. I was up there to meet with family and I hadn't been in years. Still a great atmosphere and their pizzas are good. It's a unique pizza. The crust is okay, but the toppings are fresh and shine through. Plus they have $5 ice cream sundaes so throwing a $20 for a family of 4 is reasonable for sure.

Oggi's on 67th ave. and 101 is pretty good too.

I though LJs was closed lol. Used to go there and Pizza Mart. The pizzia was just ok but they had a great salad bar and ice cream cones for a quarter.

Had this about two weeks ago. Not bad but reminded me of eating a Digiorno pizza.

Wings were great.

Wings are always solid. Garlic knots are pretty tasty too.

I agree that Costco is pretty damn hard to beat, especially for the price. Going to grab a few for my poker tournament this weekend.

Clockwork in Tempe is probably the best pizza I've ever had in AZ.

Fired Pie is pretty good taste to value.

Absolutely agree, I have had several. For that matter, Whole Foods is also in that same category.

I really do like the "build your own" pizza places. Fired Pie, MOD Pizza, etc. I get extra cheese sometimes, but their standard thin crust and standard red sauce is hard to beat for the price.

I think if they offered a larger, 16" pizza to go, it would be a solid pizza.

Yeah, it's hard to say that "build your own pizza" places are trash when it's what you built the pizza haha!

I had a buddy that would say that about Subway back in the day. My response was always, "you're the one that built the sandwich, it's your fault if you don't like it".

LOL, you can build your Subway any which way you choose. However, your choice/s in sub-standard ingredients still results in a sub-par sammich. :dance:
