Explain this to me.
I'm wanting to load some Hornady #35780, 158 gr HP, in .38 Special.
The Hornady manual, and the Hodgdon bottle, both show loadings for .357, but neither show loadings for .38 special.

Why is it recommending H110 for .357 and not .38 Special, using the same bullet?

Like the others state, wrong powder for .38. I use H110 all the time in .357 magnum and .50AE - can't imagine using it in .38. Get yourself some HP-38, Win 231 or AA#5 for .38.

H110/Win296 is about the most dangerous powder to try and download with. If you're not running full-tilt magnum loads (which it does very safely) it is not the right tool for the job.

Great advice !

(Trail boss can also be used but it is not as efficient as what is above.)

There's been entire thesis written on why H110/Win296 dosen't play well with light loads, a stick google will explain it better than I can.
