President Trump on Friday announced his intention to nominate Kenneth “Chuck” Canterbury Jr., president of the National Fraternal Order of Police and an opponent of disclosing “trace” data on firearms, to head the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Mr. Canterbury, of South Carolina, has worked as president of the National FOP since 2003 and has served on its executive board for more than two decades.

He also has been an outspoken opponent of efforts by gun-control advocates such as Michael Bloomberg to gain access to confidential law-enforcement data on firearms traces, for use in lawsuits against the firearms industry and for research. The ATF compiles the records when tracing firearms in response to requests from other law-enforcement agencies.

In the U.S., after President Clinton, Attorney General Reno, and others announced support for registration and licensing, police response was immediate and non-supportive. Dewey Stokes, President of the Fraternal Order of Police said "... I don't want to get into a situation where we have gun registration." Other law enforcement officers responded even more strongly. Charles Canterbury, President of the South Carolina FOP said, "On behalf of the South Carolina law enforcement, I can say we are adamantly opposed to registration of guns." Dennis Martin, President of the National Association of Chiefs of Police reported, "I have had a lot of calls from police chiefs and sheriffs who are worried about this. They are afraid that we're going to create a lot of criminals out of law-abiding people who don't want to get a license for their gun."

This is could be good for us.

It will be business as usual as long as unconstitutional firearms laws continue to exist.

Watch yer 6!
Mongo

Claiming, it will be business as usual, doesn't take into account that Donald J Trump is the president of the United States.

The appointment of Attorney General Barr was expected to bring business as usual, by all the Deep State swamp Demonscats, as well.

How is that working out? :whistle:

Seems like the finger pointing has begun, soon to be followed by individual conspirators begging on all fours, for Immunity from prosecution,... while sooner or later, other Deep State snakes will soon start cashing in and desert the sinking Demonscat ship by hustling off to countries without extradition agreements with the USofA,... with all their stolen millions of tax payer money !

Business as usual,... I don't think so!

Actually, I think the fun ,... has just begun!

Actually the ATF does a lot of "interpreting" of laws, not making them, and with a good director, some interpretations may be stopped or modified to the benefit of gun owners.

Yup, I think they call them inter office memo legislation. :whistle: But this seems to be the modus operandi of quite a few different government agencies, taking advantage of the political wind blowing at their particular moment.

Me thinks, those playing that game are about to have a rude awakening,... if we are persistent enough to stand up to Deep State tyranny!

GOA sees it differently.

Trump picks anti-gunner to lead ATF

You may have already seen the news. But President Trump has nominated an anti-gunner to lead the ATF.
His name is Chuck Canterbury, and he is the president of the anti-gun Fraternal Order of Police. Sadly, Canterbury has a long track record that should concern gun owners:
He’s testified before Congress to support anti-gunners like Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and Attorney General Eric Holder.
Under his watch, the FOP backed Congressional measures to expand the unconstitutional and failing NICS system — which is the same system where 95% of the initial denials are false positives.
And on the state level, the FOP under his watch has supported Universal Background Checks and opposed Constitutional Carry.

FOP Position on Firearms Regulation & Gun Violence
Updated On: Feb 16, 2013

Yesterday, 02/13/13, National Fraternal Order of Police President Chuck Canterbury issued the FOP”s official position on the firearms regulation recommendations of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. The following is the letter from President Canterbury to Chairman Michael Thompson highlighting the FOP's position including that of Colorado on firearms regulation and gun violence and what the Fraternal Order of Police supports. If it is not listed in this communications we have not taken a position of support.
The Honorable Michael Thompson
Chairman
Gun Violence Prevention Task Force
United States House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Mr. Chairman,

I am writing on behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police, the oldest and largest law enforcement organization in the United States, to thank you for including the FOP in the discussions leading up to the release of the recommendations of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.
The FOP strongly supports several measures, all absolutely critical elements of addressing gun violence, in the comprehensive plan put out by the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.
These measures are:
Supporting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens;
Expansion of background checks on firearm purchasers;
Improving the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS);
Reinvigoration of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to ensure that it has the tools and resources necessary to its mission;
Develop legislation to address penalties for firearms trafficking;
Supporting responsible gun ownership;
Improved law enforcement access to mental health records in the context of firearms acquisition; and
Funding to put more State and local law enforcement officers on the street. With the horrible tragedy in Newtown, the increased number of mass shootings in our country, and, candidly, the gun violence which happens on some scale every day in big and small municipalities across the country, many plans are being offered to curb the violence and better protect our citizens. We were happy to see many of the ideas we discussed in Task Force meetings were included in your plan.
As we have discussed, the most logical starting point to address gun violence is the expansion of the background check system. Incomplete or absent background checks create a gaping hole in the wall between firearms and criminals. Loopholes in the background check system give criminals unprecedented opportunity to access firearms. This problem must be remedied quickly. An expanded and improved background check system will provide the first level of defense against criminals arming themselves.
We greatly appreciate your recommendation to expand the resources available to ATF to combat firearms trafficking. ATF provides invaluable assistance to State and local law enforcement officers and agencies engaged in the ongoing battle against the violent criminal misuse of firearms. It is also necessary to provide ATF with the resources and manpower necessary to enforce the laws already on the books.
As things stand now, ATF has been scraping by with a dwindling number of agents and other resources while ATF’s mission has expanded. Frankly, this is unacceptable. For too long we have denied ATF the proper resources and our nation and our children have paid the price. We also believe specific penalties must be incorporated into the Gun Control Act of 1968 for illegal firearms trafficking. This addition would greatly assist ATF agents during the investigation and prosecution process.
In addition, local and State law enforcement agencies, who have been hit so hard by our nation’s ongoing financial woes, need the resources to put more officers on our streets and in our neighborhoods. Federal programs assisting State and local law enforcement have been cut to the bone and beyond, with more cuts on the way. There are jurisdictions out there telling civilians bluntly that they will have to defend themselves because their agencies do not have the manpower to respond. Proactive and community-oriented policing, key strategies of our nation’s anti-crime strategy, are rapidly becoming impossible because our local and State law enforcement agencies lack the resources and manpower.
Along with comprehensive background checks, better access to mental health records is critical to keeping guns out of the wrong hands. Without access to these records, law enforcement, at all levels of government, is handicapped which gives the criminal element the advantage. And, most obviously, State and local law enforcement need the resources and manpower to better target and reduce gun crimes. These are all common sense, easy fixes which will have far-reaching impact and better equip our law enforcement officers to fight gun violence and protect our citizens.
On behalf of the more than 330,000 member of the Fraternal Order of Police, I thank you for your willingness to work with us on these issues. If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me or Executive Director Jim Pasco in my Washington office.
Sincerely,
Chuck Canterbury
President
National Fraternal Order of Police

If ATF needs more resources to "combat gun trafficking," maybe they could use the funds they were spending to ship guns to drug cartels in Mexico.

Yet another move by Trump that should concern "Pro-Gun Voters".

Keep in mind once he is reelected he will not have a reason to care about what you want. He might start with his "Take the guns first, go through due process second", and go from there.

I hope there is somebody else that runs in the primary, I really hope I am not FORCED to vote for Trump again only because he is "the cleanest end of the turd".

President Trump,... take our guns,... REALLY!!!

Anyone who hasn't seen that the Demonscat Deep State and the Rhino Deep Sate turncoats, shitting themselves, over President Trump's agenda to clean up the DC Hill and the rest of the country,... isn't looking very closely, imo.

More and more anti Constitutionalists are being exposed every month. They are scurrying around publishing as much propaganda as they can come up with, this can only end in civil violence, imo,... and,... I don't believe Trump is going to disarm supporting Patriot Americans that he may need to call on for support, when the Demonscat tyranny gets real thick, imo.

That is the first link that came up, if you don't like the source pick any of the dozens that have the same story. I saw a video with the words coming right out of the Presidents mouth.

I don't think anybody here has said to vote for a democrat, I sure as hell didn't. I just have zero trust for Trump in the gun category of conversation.
