Timing

Just got my cans. Bought the Silenerco Chimera. Silencerco Osprey 45. And Silencerco Sparrow.

Question I have is on “timing”. The Chimera has the ASR adapter, and Im using an ASR flash hider on my .308. It talks about timing the threads in the instructions for the flash hider and using shims instead of a crush washer. But what am I timing too?

My guess would be the can be instructions almost for the muzzle brake.

You don't NEED to time the FH but... you may want to do they all look the same?

I time all my DA FH and brakes personally.

All the rifles use the same ASR style FH. If the manufacturers did their job then the threads should all be concentric right?

Usually a flash hider or muzzle device required "timing" only if it is required to be oriented in a specific direction (one side of the muzzle device needs to be facing up, down, etc.).

I don't think the ASR devices have an "up" or "down". I have Surefire and AAC muzzle devices that have an "up" side, so they are timed. The shims have different thicknesses that are used to adjust the timing by increasing/decreasing the number of threads engaged on the barrel.

By the looks of the ASR flash hider, there is nothing that needs to be timed...there is no up or down. The muzzle brake would need to be timed, since the brake ports need to be oriented to 3 and 6 o'clock.

Are you sure the instructions are specific to the flash hider, or maybe they are just generic instructions that get put into all the flash hiders and muzzle brakes, so they include instructions for both instances.

I have several Surefire MD's .
I never time the 3 prong FH's, but did time the muzzle breaks.
