I think this is not one single extended panic,...but rather 2 distinct different panics that have overlapped and conjoined.
...
I don't think anyone could say that better than you just did.
Here, hold my beer...

Make it three panics. People have seen mobs looting, burning, and even assaulting and killing, not just in the inner cities, but even at Fashion Square, and in a high-dollar gated community in Michigan. Antifa and BLM have tied for gun-and-ammo salesman of the year.

7/20/20 Correction: Missouri, not Michigan.

Antifa and BLM: The Greatest Second Amendment Promoters Since the NRA
Come November, does anyone think that folks who just spent $1,000 or more on firearms are going to vote for the vertiginous Joe Biden who would take their guns away and leave them unprotected?

I do. Never underestimate the stupidity of a libtard. They'll believe his lies that it's only those "military grade weapons" that will be confiscated, when they don't have any idea or a clue what that means. Don't worry about anything else, orange man bad; vote for me.

After reading about the apparent bullet shortage I went online to see for myself what I could find and stock up on.224 62gr bonded JSP or Gold Dot for future use. I had 15 supplier links I had saved over the years- most of the well known names and some obscure places too... I was amazed at how their shelves were bare- very little to choose from... almost everyone had very light (45gr) or very heavy (90gr) and very little in between. Sure, I could still find a few 55, 62 and 69gr offerings but that isn't my preferred projectile anymore...

Since I reload I don’t have that problem. But my nephew got caught without enough of a supply. So he is looking at 5.56 at 55 cents, or more, a round. It is making him sick because he trains a lot and it is costing him a lot more than he wants to spend.

I warned him. He waited too long before buying.

I did the same thing over the weekend. I went on my usual places like Midway and Graf and sons. Out of stock on A LOT of stuff. People are really freaking out. If Trump loses, it's going to be ugly for a long time. Glad I stocked up years ago and up till this new panic.

Another primer auction on Gun Broker. This is really getting crazy.

she always wants to go out shooting, and I keep telling her no.

There was one on Friday, ended at $1650 for 5000 CCI small Pistol. Really crazy.

$1650.00 is beyond crazy. Insanity.

33 cents a piece for a primer, yea that makes sense. At these prices there are probably a few fairly rich people here just on their primer stashes.

But in comparison, there is no 9mm ammo available. So even at 33 cents a primer, then 10 cents a bullet and some powder which is still fairly well available, they would be reloading for less than 50 cents a round. Wolf is now 44 cents a round at Wideners and quality brass ammo is almost 60 cents a round, if you can find it in stock. Miwall had Speer at 58 cents a round.

To me this does not seem as bad as after Sandy Hook, there was just a whole bunch of nothing out there with folks camping out to backpage supplies. Now it just seems way overpriced and that is causing reloading supplies to fade as well in a famously inelastic ammo supply chain. At least this time AK ammo did not disappear or spike to over 600/1000. You can still find ammo - you just wish you bought another case when it was cheap. Fortunately, I stacked deeper after Sandy Hook in both factory ammo and reloading supplies. Hope prices come down after 1/2 the country is too cold to go outside.

Yeah, but we're still 2.5 months out from the election. It's just getting started. I'm helping buddies hunt the internet for deals, so I'm tracking it pretty closely. And I swear I am not exaggerating when I say this;...the prices are creeping upward literally daily.

One buddy said he wanted the best deal on Green Tip 5.56 I could find, so I found him .50 cents per round if he bought 2000 rounds at SG Ammo. That was 10 days ago. He decided that wasn't enough, so went to get another 2000 rounds,...and it was now .60 cents per round,...and he got 2 of the last 3 in stock just hours ago. So at an average of climbing a penny per day,...this is gonna get ugly.

I recall 5.56 selling for $1 per round in March of 2013. If Trump loses,...we will easily see higher than that.

By the way,...even the .22 ammo is going stupid again. SG Ammo doesn't have a single box in stock.

I’m sure ATF-SUX has some ammo to part with from his wiener cart at Home Depot. LoL

“I aM nOt An AmMo FLiPpEr!!!!!!!”

Man, I miss the good ole days..........

If all the ammo companies are running 24/7, then it is a shame that we do not see more new ammo startups using this time to get their foot into the market.

There are a number of problems in the manufacturing and supply chain, number one being lack of raw materials. Most ammunition companies are running 24/7 but with a reduced work force due to COVID19. Less people, less product. Raw materials are in short supply due to shut downs. Lead was in short supply when the lead mines shut down in February and most of the copper mines have been shut down since April. So, if you want to be a start-up in the ammunition business, you virtually have no access to the raw materials that you need to produce any product.

Another issue is the "operating margin" the ammunition companies are enjoying. There is currently no incentive for any ammunition or component supplier to increase investment to increase production. Most all companies increased their prices by 5% on August 1 and they can with current production, sell everything they produce without discounting or increasing capital investment. Their margins are approaching all time highs.

So, it's almost a perfect storm and we are stuck in a row boat, in that storm. Not so happy sailing.

Ive seen the same thing. I noticed it back when the covid panic started but it was weekly not daily like we are seeing now. I know its the supply and demand of most resellers out there. I get it if price is rising each time they get a shipment in but it a little ridiculous if its simply increasing by the day.

I remember the buck a round green tip era, I picked up some extra cases after it went back to normal just to sit on for if/when it ever went stupid again and here we are looking that in the face again.

I agree we have not seen the end of it and its going to get worse before it gets better.
