Well since the ranges are locked down, thought I’d venture out and shoot a few rounds on the BLM land out at “dirt shooter central”, haven’t done this in quite awhile. Nothings changed, phukn trash everywhere. When I finished shooting I gathered up my meager pile of brass and cardboard target. Then the work began, filled large trash bag with plastic bottles, cans, ammo boxes and etc. Used remnants of several old boxes to bundle sh!t up, drug all the old wood target stands off the hillsides and piled them up for a future removal trip. Don’t understand what people are thinking when they leave all that stuff, anyway, great reminder of why I don’t go out and shoot in the desert. Think I made this same rant on the old web site, sound like Pete and repeat!

Were you up at Table Mesa? That place is a wreck. If the weather was nice one day, I'd totally be up for going out there to clean it up a bit.

If I only had a dollar for every load of other shooters trash I have hauled out of the desert...... sickening. :x

It seems like it would be a good place to have trail cams set up to catch people wrecking the place.

I always try to take at least some of other peoples trash with me, and I teach my boys to do the same.
Same goes for camp sites

Good on ya for helping to clean up. Our desert shooting options are becoming fewer these days and it’s thanks to the irresponsibles. A group of us were shooting near Seven Springs and a couple rangers came by. They were very pleased that we brought steel targets and weren’t blowing up TV’s and old toilets. They are thankfully starting to crack down on this more and more.

SIL in a ranger in bartlett and seven springs area, and lately its been a nightmare for them, locks cut, chains cut, restrooms opened. and mcso has been extremely slow to respond to issues they are having.
SIL says won't be long till they shut a whole lot of areas down, trash is outta control as is fire wood cutting, consequences for this should be huge and severe.
i pick up many times more trash than normal last few trips out, we shoot steel, big deal is shotgun hulls, i have almost a 55 gal drum full

Being in Europe, I've found some things that I wish we as Americans were more like. They clean their trails themselves. There is usually very little or no trash on the side of the road. They even have community gardens in many places that are tended by everybody, giving fresh fruit and vegetables to be shared in the community.

It's even more surprising considering how reliant they are on their government to do so many other things for them. It is a very interesting dichotomy.

I have always subscribed to take out what you bring in. It is sicking to see garbage left behind by careless pigs! If it keeps up we will have no where to shoot.

Its been over twenty years since I had to shoot on public desert areas,.... sounds like things have declined exponentially! :x Sadly, I must admit, I didn't expect any better!

When I think about how our natural resources have declined, JUST IN MY LIFETIME, it makes me wonder when will the US truly wake up, to the dependence we have on mother earth, for our very existence!

 Thanks to all above, doing more than your share of policing shooting areas!!!

Yep, I see the same. I really don't get it. How hard is it to bring a plastic grocery bag and collect up your trash? They probably already have one in the car or with the ammo they bought at Walmart...

Agree with the comment about Europe. Many places over there are super clean and people's mentality is much different than here.

John Adams wrote that "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

With freedom comes the freedom to be stupid - and as we know the real difference between stupidity and intelligence is that there is a limit to intelligence.

AZ56 I’m in NW Az. so leaving the big city for smaller area proved to be fruitless as far as escaping the dimwits, we’re surrounded! Thanks for all the responses, just needed to vent, thanks to all that go the extra mile to pack out more than you brought and teach your kids what it’s like to clean up after the dip -sh!ts!

The freedom to be stupid. I see that a lot. It's sometimes a steep price to pay for what freedoms we have left. I'm not saying it isn't worth it, just obnoxious.

Where in Europe? While Germany and the Scandinavian countries have a record of cleanliness, I can personally attest that The Netherlands, Italy and Greece are literally covered in garbage. Italy and Greece have a huge grafitti problem too. It's like 1977 South Bronx over there.

I have a couple gun "friends" that are these people. One of them even being raising in AZ. I simply do not go shooting with them out in the desert. I honestly don't understand how people do not give an eff. At the minimum it's always pick up after yourself.

Even if they patrol more I'm guessing it's almost impossible to ticket anyone. Unless you see them drag the tv/whatever out there and shoot it. They can always just say, it was already out here.

I always pack out more than i pack in but it's not even really noticeable. I do pick up a bunch shotgun shells with my harbor freight magnet which visually helps some.

There used to be yearly clean-ups and stuff but I don't hear about those anymore. Does anyone know where you can go to get notified of those events? I assume they must still be happening.

That's the truth. I'm in Bavaria, so it's old school picturesque Germany. I didn't find The Netherlands to be so dirty, but I agree about Italy and Greece. Not to mention Paris. Not France, but Paris specifically. And the Graffiti in Greece is everywhere, but you should check out Crete if you want to see straight up ghetto. The whole island is that way. Sicily is also VERY dirty. Most of Czech is okay, but outside of Old Town, Prague is pretty dirty.

I guess in most of the old cities, the Old Town areas are usually nice (except for Greece) and the surrounding areas are pretty dirty. I should have been more specific when I stated Europe. None of which should be taken as me telling people the shouldn't visit if they want too. It's just a matter of "be prepared."

Sorry to have hijacked the thread!

It's not the die hard gun guys making the mess. I've been up at table mesa rd and seen Mexicans shooting TV's broken down tables etc. They bring out their trash and shoot it and leave it. I have also seen teens bring out bottles and shoot them and leave their mess. Usually true gun people, not all ,but most leave with what they brought.
