Some of us don't have access through family, or friends. I happened onto these in Fry's, and gave them a try. Fantastic! Needed NO salsas, or anything. Just steamed them in a double boiler a couple of minutes and good-to-go.

I imagine not everyone lives nearby to mamacita marketplaces. But this year, I found a Facebook community page for my area, and started checking in there a couple times a week to keep up to date on what's going on in the area. (Not as good as actually meeting and talking to your neighbors, but not bad, either.) And I had no idea there were so many ladies of hispanic heritage in my hood that were making extra Christmas money making homemade tamales for sale! I've got fresh tamales coming out of my ears now.

I think tamales are a Xmas thing here, but I don't remember them being special other than just some more food where I grew up in W. Texas. Nobody got excited about 'em at all honestly. Now, my best friend's mom used to make the best frijoles in the state.

Have a great, gun carryin', Kenpo day

I don't know for sure when the tradition began. But from what I have been informed by friends married into Mexican families, making the masa from scratch is labor intensive. For one momma to make enough to feed the whole gang coming over to visit and to send some home would require a LOT of slaving away in the kitchen. So it has been a team effort of all the ladies in a clan to pull together to get the job done, and also serve as a social gathering totally separate from the meals and drinking. It works out pretty good. All the ladies get together and gossip about what women talk about, while the husbands get to hang out and drink and show off tools and cars and guns. I've been privileged to be at some of these get togethers, and its pretty cool. The man of the house where this is going on has the responsibility to ensure there is ALWAYS a cold beer in your hand and it is embarrassing to him if you set down an empty can or bottle before he's shoving another cold one at you. Don't even THINK about politely refusing one. Just accept the next one, smile, and continue to get slowly schitfaced. Definitely some of the best Christmas gatherings I've ever been to.

Are we not buying them from unlicensed vendors in parking lots this year?

Taco stand on 19th north of dobbins coming back from shooting Sunday, stopped for a couple tacos, they were good. There is a group that sets up on 19th and I believe and southern at the closed drug store and it has been good all 3 times I stopped, I am packing just in case.

Never got sick from street food in US.

Range & tamales in the same day! That’s a good day.
