Starting a gun related Youtube channel - What is wrong with me?

valley of the gun - meetup group has OC dinners still - doesn't cost anything to join Jayson's group and he gets discounts for members to Caswell's shooting range.

I'm making slow progress, but at least I'm getting somewhere. I did a little test shoot, and I'm hoping to shoot a couple of full videos this Tuesday.

I think I may have a lead on a place to shoot on someone's private property out near QC. If it works out, that would be nice to not have to shoot somewhere that resembles a landfill. Hopefully, I can find some other good clean places to shoot closer to the north valley.

If you make quality content eventually people will subscribe. You also might start at the cutting edge with new products which will attract attention.

That's my goal. I want the stuff to look higher quality than most of the content on Youtube already, but it won't always be gun product feature videos. I also want to put out some quality gun culture/law/2A commentary, and I want to dig a lot into the history. I'm not excited to talk on camera, but I'm passionate about these topics, so I hope it'll come across as engaging, informative, and entertaining.

Just out of curiosity, are there any specific kinds of "cutting edge" products that you want to see covered?

Not personally but people will be searching for new stuff so you'll have easier traffic. Everyone likes honest extensive use reviews, etc. It might be expensive at first but there are ways around that eventually.

My 2 cents and worth less, So many of the videos where they are reviewing guns or doing box openings or how to pieces feel like I am watching Señor Wences.

There is a disembodied voice and someone is desperately trying to express all their thoughts and emotions using there hands laying on a table top.

It so weirds me out but it could be because I remember Señor Wences and he weirded me out.

Sounds like you know what your doing so if a video were edited so that it went back and forth between a human (presenter) and then the close ups of relevant things going on in the video .. FOR ME .. it flows better and is more interesting to watch then a pair of hands moving about expressing ....something .. on a table top.

Think about your own education experience. The presenter gave some info then referred to an overhead projector or what passes for one now for details then back to the presenter and so on. Its engaging.

Having said that .. GOOD LUCK! I mean that sincerely. You seem excited about it and anything that gets you pumped to do is a good thing!!

I couldnt do it.

Well .. not only dont I have any skill for it ... social media is just mean and I dont need it in my life.

This and couple other boards is about all I could stand but I pick boards that have people with similar interests and in many cases similar sensibilities. The wide open world wide web is full of creeps who seem to get pleasure trying to tear people down. Reading the comments sections on any youtube vid or news article makes me wish I didnt know my fellow man so well.

Thanks! I'm excited about this being a possible avenue for fighting the culture war, and it would be incredible if I could transition over to gun content full-time eventually. I'm not looking forward to the negative that might come along with putting myself out there, but I realize that's part of the price of admission.

Agreed on the hands. Not the best presentation style.

Once you gather enough momentum, manufacturers will just start sending you stuff.

But here in AZ, there are so many gun and shooting related manufacturers, it shouldn't be too difficult to find outfits willing to help you out in exchange for exposure of their material/products.

Try to find a new about-to-premier product or manufacturer and see if they will give you early access to their product(s).

Thanks for the suggestion. I've reached out to a couple of local places so far, and I've had very positive responses. One target manufacturer (non-local) even said that they'd love to partner with me just based on some of my non-firearm video work, so that's encouraging.

As you mentioned, I just need to get the momentum rolling and bigger and bigger opportunities will arise. The regularity of posting will also be important, although that will be made easier with some of the videos being commentary only with no shooting.

Ask for ammo and keeping whatever it is they ask you to review. Its what Garandthumb does.

I did hit up one ammo manufacturing that said no way could they spare any ammo right now, and that they can barely even supply the influencers that they're currently partnering with. I understand the ammo situation isn't great, but it seems like anything I would use would be a drop in the bucket. Although, I don't know if anyone selling ammo needs much in the way of advertisements right now, so it's understandable. I think Garandthumb gets ammo from his retail partners rather than direct, so that might be a better route.

I had a guy once out of the blue tell me what an Influencer he was and how he was a youtube famous.

Think it was from the CZ forum. Wanted me to send him a holster .. for free .. for his evaluation. I asked if I would get it back and got a NO.

I declined. I would have had more respect if he just bought it and tore it to sh*t in a review than me give it to him and basically pay for a positive one.

Funny thing about my personal honor code. I don't choose to live by it only when its convenient.

If what I produce leather or otherwise isn't up to snuff .. I need to improve it .. not pay to make it appear good. That is lying
