Star Pistol questions

I just recently picked up a Star Super B for fun and cuz it was cheap. While technically not a C&R (this one is 1973) the rest of its family (most of the Star B and earlier ) are. As such it is closer to C&R than it is to modern. Same price range (this one was actually cheaper) and size as a Tokarev but nicely finished and blued. Seems to be a big ole single stack 9mm with 1911ish controls. Take down is dirt simple and like a SIG . Flip lever, pull slide off the front. Haven't tried any hollow point stuff but it gobbles up anything with a round nose and it even loves my 147 gr. cast.
So , question ,,,,, if any one here has one ?????
What little I could find to read about these suggest one of the upgrades to the Super B was a captive recoil spring to go with the ramped barrel. This one has a short recoil rod and a free ranging spring. kind of looks like 1911 stuff. It seems to work well but was wondering Bubba had been having his way ?
Anyone have opinions on these pistols?

Star pistols are ugly on the outside and run very well for a long time.

I've got a couple, a .22LR and a Star Model 30M in 9MM.

The retention spring that keeps the safety lever from just falling out failed on mine and i had to pay out the nose for replacemebt parts.

Had a couple Stars. One in 9mm with Starvelle(?~kinda nickel) finish, and a SA/DA .45acp. None of mine had feed issues, only heard some could be finicky. Undercover early Narc’s used to love them, then Glocks came along. Lol
I still have my .45 ACP & other than a little safety wear to aluminum frame finish, the piece still looks VG.

I had a FireStar 9mm. Although a bit heavy it was a reliable shooter. Problem is parts, Star went belly up during the Spanish Recession (IIRC in the 90's ??). Of the Spanish guns they are one of the best.

I own both the Star B and the Super Star B. The Star B while accurate and reliable pinches the web of my hand. The Super be does not and is also a reliable and accurate 9mm. Both are a bit heavy for a single stack 9mm.

samnev is talking about the same gun , big and heavy for a single stack 9. But these guns did evolve all the way from the 1930's and that's the way they did 'em. The newer Stars were all different and while good enough guns , were of a short enough run to make parts replacement problematic.
My original question about the guide rod and spring seems to be resolved . All the disassembly videos on YouTube seem to show the same set up .

A while ago, A friend needed a firing pin for his Star model B, .... Couldn't find one.

Picked up another. Model 30M and it performs very nicely.

Years ago I had a Firestar worked well but was heavy for a mid size piece. Recently picked up a Star BM from J&G for $179. I have put 300-400 rds downrange with only a couple of FTE's. Would not want it for a carry gun, but it's dead balls accurate and feeds JHP's and the wifey likes it.

Why the desire not to care a Star BM? I have no concerns caring mine for short trips to the store.

Don't like the lack of a grip safety, otherwise good to go. Would make a great truck gun.

Picked up 2 Star BM from J&G.
only thing I've seen questionable is the firing pins. they seem to be fragile.

Got maybe 40 rounds in on one and it broke the tip off. Filed it flat, drilled it, heated with a torch and then stuck a replacement decapping pin in its place and filed to fit.

Other than that it's been a accurate and reliable 9mm.
